PM Modi Pays Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat

RR Team, January 30, 2026January 30, 2026
New Delhi, January 30: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Friday paid solemn homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on his death anniversary, remembering the Father of the Nation and reaffirming India’s commitment to his timeless ideals.

The tribute was paid at Rajghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, where the Prime Minister laid flowers and observed a moment of silence. The ceremony marked Martyrs’ Day, observed annually on January 30 to commemorate Gandhi’s sacrifice for the nation.

Reflecting on the enduring relevance of Gandhian philosophy, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals continue to guide India’s national journey even decades after Independence.

Reaffirming Commitment to Gandhian Ideals

In a message shared after the tribute, the Prime Minister highlighted the moral and ethical foundations laid by Mahatma Gandhi. He stated that Bapu’s principles of truth, non-violence, justice, and service remain central to India’s democratic and social fabric.

“His timeless ideals continue to guide our nation’s journey. We reaffirm our commitment to his principles and to building an India rooted in justice, harmony and service to humanity,” Shri Modi said.

The message underscored the government’s emphasis on inclusive development, social harmony, and ethical governance inspired by Gandhian thought.

Tribute Shared on Social Media

The Prime Minister also shared his homage through a post on X (formerly Twitter), extending the message to citizens across the country and the world. The post echoed the sentiments expressed at Rajghat and highlighted the universal relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings.

Observances at Rajghat on Martyrs’ Day traditionally serve as a moment of national reflection, reminding citizens of the values that shaped India’s freedom movement and continue to define its constitutional ethos.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Enduring Legacy

Mahatma Gandhi, fondly known as Bapu, was assassinated on January 30, 1948. His philosophy of non-violent resistance not only played a decisive role in India’s freedom struggle but also inspired global movements for civil rights and social justice.

From championing communal harmony to advocating self-reliance and ethical living, Gandhi’s vision went beyond political freedom and focused on moral transformation of society.

Rajghat, where his mortal remains were cremated, remains a sacred site of remembrance and reflection, drawing leaders, citizens, and visitors from across the world.

Nation Observes Martyrs’ Day

The homage paid by the Prime Minister forms part of nationwide observances marking Martyrs’ Day. Across India, institutions, schools, and public bodies organised prayer meetings and remembrance events to honour Gandhi’s life and sacrifice.

The day serves as a reminder that the values upheld by Mahatma Gandhi peace, tolerance, and service remain essential for addressing contemporary challenges and strengthening democratic society.
