PM Modi Shares Sanskrit Subhashitam on Humility of True Warriors

RR Team, December 16, 2025December 16, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam that underscores the timeless virtues of humility, courage and selfless action, drawing attention to values deeply rooted in India’s civilisational ethos. The verse, shared on social media platform X, reflects the belief that true warriors do not indulge in self-praise but quietly perform difficult and demanding deeds through action.
The Subhashitam shared by the Prime Minister reads: “न मर्षयन्ति चात्मानं सम्भावयितुमात्मना। अदर्शयित्वा शूरास्तु कर्म कुर्वन्ति दुष्करम्।” The verse conveys that brave individuals consider it inappropriate to glorify themselves and, without outward display or words, continue to accomplish challenging tasks.

Message Rooted in Indian Ethical Thought

The Sanskrit verse reflects a core principle of Indian philosophy, where action guided by duty and humility is valued more than public acclaim. By sharing the Subhashitam, the Prime Minister reiterated the importance of character, restraint and quiet determination in public and personal life.

Such teachings, long embedded in classical Sanskrit literature, have shaped India’s understanding of leadership and heroism. Warriors, leaders and servants of society are traditionally celebrated not for loud proclamations, but for their willingness to shoulder responsibility without seeking recognition.

Humility and Courage in Contemporary Context

Observers note that the Prime Minister’s message holds relevance in contemporary times, where visibility and self-promotion often dominate public discourse. The Subhashitam serves as a reminder that genuine courage is reflected in consistent effort, sacrifice and service rather than in words or symbolic gestures.

The emphasis on humility also aligns with India’s long-standing cultural belief that ego weakens moral strength, while selflessness reinforces collective well-being. By invoking this verse, the Prime Minister highlighted values that transcend time and remain essential in governance, public service and everyday conduct.

Social Media as a Medium for Cultural Reflection

Prime Minister Modi has frequently used social media platforms to share verses, proverbs and philosophical reflections drawn from India’s ancient texts. These posts often spark discussion among scholars, students and the wider public, helping bridge classical wisdom with modern communication channels.

The Sanskrit Subhashitam shared on Monday was received as part of this broader effort to reconnect society with ethical teachings that emphasise duty, humility and perseverance. It also reflects the government’s focus on cultural continuity alongside technological and economic progress.

Timeless Values for a Modern Nation

In recent years, the Prime Minister has consistently spoken about the need to draw strength from India’s intellectual and spiritual heritage while navigating global challenges. Messages rooted in Sanskrit literature, officials say, are meant to inspire individuals to act responsibly and selflessly in their respective roles.

The verse shared on X reinforces the idea that national progress is built not only on ambition and innovation, but also on humility, discipline and courage. These values, when practised collectively, contribute to social harmony and ethical leadership.
