PM Modi Shares Sanskrit Subhashitam on Self-Reliance

RR Team, February 2, 2026February 2, 2026

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Monday shared a profound Sanskrit Subhashitam highlighting the timeless value of self-reliance, linking ancient wisdom with contemporary national priorities. The message, shared through social media, underscored that true prosperity follows capability and self-respect rather than dependence.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came at a time when national focus remains firmly on empowering citizens, particularly the youth, through policy reforms and budgetary support aimed at building skills, confidence, and economic independence.

The Sanskrit Subhashitam Explained

The Subhashitam shared by the Prime Minister states:

“नाम्भोधिरर्थितामेति सदाम्भोभिश्च पूर्यते ।
आत्मा तु पात्रतां नेयः पात्रमायान्ति सम्पदः॥”

Explaining its meaning, the Prime Minister noted that the ocean never asks anyone for water, yet it is always full. Similarly, when a person develops inner capability and worth, prosperity and success naturally come to them.

Self-Reliance as a Path to Self-Respect

Shri Modi described self-reliance as a guiding lamp that illuminates the path of self-respect and inner strength. According to him, Atmanirbharta is not merely about economic independence but also about confidence, dignity, and the ability to stand on one’s own feet.

The Prime Minister has repeatedly stressed that a self-reliant individual contributes to a self-reliant nation, making personal empowerment a cornerstone of national development.

Link with the Union Budget and Youth Empowerment

In his post, the Prime Minister connected the philosophy of self-reliance with the Union Budget, stating that this year’s budget will play a significant role in empowering the youth. He highlighted that budgetary measures are designed to strengthen capability, skill development, and opportunities for young Indians.

The emphasis on youth empowerment aligns with the government’s broader vision of creating a skilled, confident, and innovation-driven workforce capable of meeting global challenges.

Message Shared on Social Media Platform X

Sharing the message on X, the Prime Minister wrote in Hindi that self-reliance is the lamp that shows the way to self-respect and capability. He reiterated that the current budget will be instrumental in making young companions self-reliant and empowered.

The post also included the Sanskrit verse, reinforcing the blend of India’s cultural heritage with modern governance ideals.

Ancient Wisdom in Modern Governance

By quoting a Sanskrit Subhashitam, the Prime Minister once again highlighted the relevance of India’s ancient philosophical traditions in addressing contemporary challenges. Such verses, rooted in centuries-old wisdom, continue to inspire values like discipline, capability, and self-belief.

Observers note that the use of classical references helps communicate complex ideas in a simple yet impactful manner, resonating across generations.

Official Confirmation by PIB

The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Delhi, officially shared the Prime Minister’s message at 12:56 PM on February 2, 2026. PIB remains the government’s authoritative source for verified updates related to official statements and policy messaging.

A Continuing Emphasis on Atmanirbharta

The Prime Minister’s message reinforces the continuing emphasis on Atmanirbhar Bharat, a vision that encourages individuals, communities, and institutions to build strength from within. By combining policy initiatives with philosophical clarity, the leadership aims to inspire sustainable and inclusive growth.

The Sanskrit Subhashitam, in this context, serves as both a moral lesson and a practical reminder that capability attracts opportunity.
