PM Modi Shares Sanskrit Subhashitam on True Knowledge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam underscoring the importance of complete and scientifically grounded knowledge. Posting the verse on social media platform X, the Prime Minister highlighted how true wisdom, when combined with deeper understanding, leads to clarity and the highest realisation of truth.

The verse quoted by the Prime Minister reads:

“ज्ञानं तेऽहं सविज्ञानमिदं वक्ष्याम्यशेषतः।
यज्ज्ञात्वा नेह भूयोऽन्यज्ज्ञातव्यमवशिष्यते।।”

The Sanskrit shloka speaks about imparting knowledge along with scientific reasoning and experiential understanding. It conveys that when one attains such comprehensive knowledge, nothing further remains to be known.

Meaning and Philosophical Significance

The verse reflects a foundational principle of Indian philosophical thought — that knowledge is not merely theoretical but must be accompanied by ‘Vijnana,’ or applied and experiential wisdom. This integrated understanding leads to intellectual completeness and spiritual fulfilment.

Scholars interpret the verse as a reminder that true education bridges information and insight. It aligns with India’s ancient knowledge systems, where scientific inquiry and spiritual introspection were often interwoven.

India’s Knowledge Tradition

India’s civilisational journey has long emphasised holistic learning. From the Vedic age to modern scientific advancements, the pursuit of knowledge has been rooted in both rational inquiry and ethical grounding. Sanskrit Subhashitams concise, poetic expressions of wisdom have historically served as tools for moral and intellectual guidance.

The Prime Minister’s reference to this classical verse comes at a time when India is placing strong emphasis on research, innovation, and technology-driven growth. The National Education Policy and various research initiatives underscore the importance of blending traditional wisdom with modern scientific temper.

Knowledge with Scientific Temper

The Prime Minister’s message also resonates with the constitutional duty of developing scientific temper among citizens. By highlighting “Sah-Vijnana”  knowledge supported by reasoning and verification  the verse reinforces the idea that learning must stand the test of logic and experience.

In recent years, the government has encouraged scientific research, innovation missions, and technological self-reliance under various flagship programs. The integration of classical Indian thought with modern research frameworks reflects a broader vision of intellectual self-confidence.

Public Response and Cultural Relevance

The post drew attention from scholars, educators, and citizens who appreciated the emphasis on India’s timeless wisdom. Many users on social media noted that Sanskrit Subhashitams continue to remain relevant in guiding ethical conduct and intellectual pursuits in contemporary times.

By sharing such verses periodically, the Prime Minister has often sought to connect modern governance discourse with India’s rich philosophical heritage. The emphasis remains on knowledge that empowers individuals not just professionally, but also morally and spiritually.

As India advances in technology, innovation, and global leadership, the reminder that knowledge must be complete, evidence-based, and transformative offers a message that bridges tradition and modernity.
