PM Modi to Inaugurate 150 Years of Vande Mataram Celebration

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the year-long nationwide commemoration of 150 Years of India’s National Song, “Vande Mataram”, on 7th November 2025 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. The event marks the official launch of celebrations running until 7th November 2026, honoring a composition that inspired India’s freedom struggle and continues to evoke national pride and unity.

Historical Significance of Vande Mataram

Written by Bankimchandra Chatterji in 1875 on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Navami, Vande Mataram first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of the novel Anandamath. The song became a powerful symbol of India’s awakening, invoking the Motherland as a source of strength, prosperity, and divinity. On 24th January 1950, President Dr. Rajendra Prasad accorded it equal honor with the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana.

Inaugural Ceremony Highlights

The event will begin at 10:00 AM with a mass singing of the full version of Vande Mataram across public places, involving citizens, students, officials, and other stakeholders nationwide. The main ceremony will feature:

  • Cultural programs before the Chief Guest’s arrival
  • Curated exhibition on 150 Years of the National Song
  • Floral tribute to Bharat Mata
  • Vande Mataram: Naad Ekam, Roopam Anekam concert with 75 musicians led by violin maestro Dr. Manjunath Mysore
  • Screening of a short documentary on the song’s legacy
  • Release of a commemorative stamp and coin
  • Keynote address by the Prime Minister
  • Mass Singing of Vande Mataram by all participants

Nationwide Participation

All States/UTs, Union Ministries, and government departments will conduct synchronized mass singing at their offices at 10:00 AM. The Prime Minister’s address will be telecast live for public institutions and organizations to encourage collective participation.

Public Engagement and Digital Campaign

The Ministry of Culture has launched a dedicated website, https://vandemataram150.in/, which includes approved branding materials, short films, curated exhibitions, and audio tracks with lyrics for mass singing. The portal also features a “Karaoke with Vande Mataram” option, enabling citizens to record and upload their own renditions of the song, promoting national engagement and patriotism.

The Ministry encourages citizens from all walks of life to participate actively, making this commemoration a collective expression of devotion, pride, and unity.
