Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Kartavya Bhavan at Kartavya Path, New Delhi on August 6, 2025. The event will begin at 12:15 PM, followed by a public address at 6:30 PM.
This modern Secretariat building marks a big step in India’s push for efficient, sustainable governance.
A Smart Shift in Administration
Kartavya Bhavan – 03 is a core part of the Central Vista redevelopment project. It will bring multiple Ministries under one roof, helping speed up decisions and improve coordination.
It replaces older buildings like Shastri Bhawan and Udyog Bhawan, which were built decades ago and lack modern facilities.
Ministries Moving In
The new office complex covers 1.5 lakh square meters across two basements and seven floors. It will house:
Ministries housed include Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, and MSME.
- Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)
- Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas
- Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser
Smart, Secure & IT-Ready
The building features ID-based access, electronic surveillance, and a central command system. These features ensure both security and efficiency.
Workspaces are IT-ready and built to support high-level government functioning.
Green and Sustainable
Kartavya Bhavan is a zero-discharge campus. It treats and reuses wastewater and processes solid waste on-site.
The building uses recycled construction materials, lightweight partitions, and eco-friendly bricks made from demolition waste.
Energy-Efficient Design
The structure is designed to use 30% less energy than traditional offices. It includes:
- Double-glazed windows for thermal and sound insulation
- Smart elevators
- LED lighting with motion sensors
- Advanced HVAC system
Powered by the Sun
Solar panels on the rooftop will generate 5.34 lakh units of electricity every year. Solar water heaters will supply over 25% of daily hot water needs.
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are also installed, encouraging clean mobility.
A Better Place to Work
The new building is designed to promote employee well-being. Natural lighting, clean air, and optimized workspace layouts support health and productivity.
Modern infrastructure will help reduce stress and boost efficiency.
Step Towards Agile Governance
Kartavya Bhavan stands as a symbol of India’s transition to agile, technology-enabled governance. It’s part of a bigger plan to make Delhi’s administrative center modern, sustainable, and citizen-friendly.
It reflects the Prime Minister’s vision of a responsive, efficient, and accountable government.
