Nationwide Celebration of a Timeless Song
The event marks the formal beginning of a nationwide celebration to honour 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, one of India’s most revered compositions that ignited patriotic fervour during the freedom struggle and continues to inspire unity and pride among citizens.
The commemoration will run from November 7, 2025, to November 7, 2026, with various cultural and educational programs scheduled across the nation. As part of the inaugural ceremony, the Prime Minister will release a commemorative stamp and coin dedicated to the song’s enduring legacy.

Mass Singing Across the Country

At around 9:50 AM, the full version of “Vande Mataram” will be sung simultaneously across public spaces nationwide. Citizens from all walks of life are expected to participate in this mass singing event, symbolizing collective respect and gratitude towards the Motherland.
Government departments, educational institutions, and community organizations have been encouraged to participate and broadcast the event live to spread the spirit of unity and nationalism.
Historical Significance of Vande Mataram
The year 2025 marks the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram”, composed by Bankimchandra Chatterji in 1875 during Akshaya Navami. The song first appeared in the literary journal Bangadarshan as part of his novel Anandamath.
“Vande Mataram” personifies the Motherland as a divine and nurturing force a poetic invocation of India’s spirit of strength, prosperity, and cultural richness. It became a rallying cry for India’s freedom fighters, symbolizing the awakening of national consciousness and self-respect.
Over the decades, the song has transcended generations, continuing to evoke deep emotion and patriotism among Indians across the world.
Stamp and Coin to Commemorate 150 Years
During the event, Prime Minister Modi will unveil a commemorative postal stamp and a special coin dedicated to “Vande Mataram”. The release will serve as a national tribute to Bankimchandra Chatterji and his immortal contribution to India’s cultural and patriotic heritage.
