PM Modi to Lead Closing of WHO Traditional Medicine Summit

RR Team, December 18, 2025December 18, 2025
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the closing ceremony of the Second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine on December 19, 2025, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, underscoring India’s leadership in advancing traditional medicine through science, innovation and global collaboration.

The summit, jointly organised by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Ayush, has brought together global leaders, policymakers, scientists, practitioners and Indigenous knowledge holders to deliberate on building equitable and evidence-based health systems.

Global Focus on Traditional Medicine

The three-day summit, held from December 17 to 19, revolves around the theme “Restoring balance: The science and practice of health and well-being.” It highlights the growing global recognition of traditional medicine as a complementary pillar in modern healthcare.

India’s role as host reflects its long-standing heritage in systems such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, collectively known as Ayush.

Launch of Landmark Ayush Digital Initiatives

During the closing ceremony, Prime Minister Modi will launch the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), envisioned as a comprehensive digital platform for the Ayush sector. The portal aims to integrate services, stakeholders and information, enhancing accessibility and transparency.

The Prime Minister will also unveil the Ayush Mark, which is being positioned as a global benchmark for quality, safety and authenticity of Ayush products and services.

Key Publications and Symbolic Releases

On the occasion, the Prime Minister will release a WHO technical report on training in Yoga, reinforcing Yoga’s role as a scientifically validated wellness practice. He will also release the book “From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush,” documenting India’s efforts to globalise traditional medicine.

A commemorative postal stamp on Ashwagandha will also be unveiled, symbolising India’s medicinal heritage and its growing global acceptance.

Inauguration of WHO SEARO Complex

Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the new WHO South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO) complex in Delhi, which will also house the WHO India Country Office. The new facility marks a significant milestone in India’s partnership with the World Health Organization.

The development reinforces India’s commitment to global health governance and regional cooperation.

Honouring Excellence in Yoga Promotion

The Prime Minister will felicitate recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for the years 2021 to 2025. The awards recognise individuals and institutions that have played a sustained role in spreading Yoga globally.

The recognition reaffirms Yoga’s role as a timeless practice promoting balance, harmony and holistic well-being.

Exhibition and Global Participation

Prime Minister Modi will also visit the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space, an exhibition highlighting the diversity, depth and contemporary relevance of traditional medicine systems from India and across the world.

The summit witnessed intensive deliberations among global stakeholders on integrating traditional medicine into modern healthcare frameworks while ensuring scientific validation and safety.
