“PM Modi Unveils Labour Reforms for Future India”

RR Team, November 25, 2025November 24, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an insightful article by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, underlining how India’s newly implemented labour reforms are simplifying compliance, empowering women workers, and bolstering the nation’s standing in the global value chain.

PM Endorses Mandaviya’s Vision

On 24 November 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a detailed article by Labour Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, celebrating India’s adoption of historic labour reforms. Modi praised these changes as a decisive shift toward a “future-ready” economy. He said the world now recognizes India as a trusted global partner.

Key Reforms at a Glance

The reforms include the implementation of four new labour codes on wages, industrial relations, social security, and occupational safety. These replace 29 outdated labour laws.

Mandaviya’s article highlights how compliance procedures have been simplified, reducing bureaucratic burden for companies. At the same time, worker protections have been strengthened through formal contracts, social security coverage, and minimum wage guarantees.

Empowering Women & Youth

A key focus of the reforms is the empowerment of women workers. The new labour codes promote gender equity by ensuring safer workplaces, equal pay, and opportunities for night shifts under safe conditions.

The minister’s piece also stresses enhanced protections for young workers, including through formal recognition of gig and platform employment, giving them access to social security benefits.

Strengthening India’s Global Role

Modi reinforced Mandaviya’s argument that these reforms will solidify India’s role in the global value chain. By simplifying business rules and enhancing labour market formalisation, India is positioning itself as a reliable partner for international investment.

The smoother regulatory environment is expected to boost job creation, encourage productivity, and fuel India’s mission for a developed and self-reliant economy.

Pro-Worker & Pro-Growth Balance

According to Mandaviya, the labour reforms are not just pro-business they are pro-worker too. He argues that they establish a foundation for universal social security, time-bound payment of wages, and safer working conditions.

These reforms also respond to India’s changing economy by bringing formal status to gig and platform workers, ensuring they receive benefits previously reserved for formal sector employees.

Challenges & Criticism

While the reforms are being praised at the highest level, some observers and trade unions have voiced concerns. Reports point to potential issues, such as whether the social security benefits will fully reach all informal workers and how enforcement mechanisms will work in practice.

Nevertheless, the government argues that the long-term benefits including formal jobs, broader social protection and increased productivity  outweigh short-term implementation challenges.

Looking Ahead

The government has called on stakeholders  employers, workers, and states  to put these reforms into practice. According to Mandaviya, successful implementation will require continuous engagement, capacity building, and monitoring.

As India transforms its labour landscape, the vision is clear: a balanced ecosystem where worker dignity and economic growth go hand in hand, empowering India to be a competitive and compassionate global workforce.
