PM Modi’s ₹2200 Cr Varanasi Boost on August 2

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi — his Lok Sabha constituency — to unveil and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹2200 crore. The event will begin at approximately 11 AM and aims to transform the ancient city across multiple sectors.

Transforming Varanasi Across Sectors

From infrastructure and education to healthcare, tourism, and heritage preservation, the new projects reflect a holistic vision for Varanasi’s growth. PM Modi will address the public and outline his government’s roadmap to make Varanasi a symbol of sustainable urban development.

Infrastructure: Better Roads, Bridges, and Power

Road connectivity will get a major boost. PM Modi will inaugurate the widening of the Varanasi-Bhadohi road, Chhitauni–Shool Tankeshwar road, and the Railway Overbridge at Hardattpur. These projects will ease congestion and enhance urban mobility.

He will also lay foundation stones for road upgrades in Dalmandi, Gangapur, Lahartara-Kotwa, Babatpur, and other important corridors. Two new Railway Overbridges at Level Crossing 22C and Khalispur Yard are also part of the plan.

To strengthen the power infrastructure, PM will launch works under the Smart Distribution Project and underground cabling worth over ₹880 crore. This move aims at uninterrupted and safe power supply for Varanasi’s residents.

Tourism and Heritage: Ghats, Temples, and Cultural Sites

Varanasi, one of the world’s oldest living cities, will see enhanced tourist appeal. PM Modi will inaugurate redevelopment projects for eight Kuccha Ghats, Kalika Dham, and Rangildas Kutiya in Shivpur. Restoration of Durgakund and beautification of ponds and parks are also on the list.

He will lay the foundation for the restoration of Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, development of Karkhiyaon (home to many freedom fighters), and City Facility Centres at Sarnath, Rishi Mandvi, and Ramnagar. The ancestral home of Munshi Premchand in Lamahi will also be redeveloped, along with a museum upgrade.

A new Urban Miyawaki Forest at Kanchanpur and beautification of Shaheed Udyan and 21 other parks will bring green cover and serenity to urban spaces.

Water Conservation and Clean Drinking Water

PM Modi will lay foundation stones for water purification and maintenance works at culturally significant Kunds such as Ramkund, Mandakini, and Shankuldhara. Floating pujan platforms will also be installed to improve accessibility while preserving heritage.

He will also inaugurate 47 Rural Drinking Water Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, ensuring potable water access to underserved communities.

Education: Schools and Libraries

As part of his focus on quality education, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the upgradation of 53 school buildings in the municipal area. New initiatives include the foundation of a district library and rejuvenation of government schools in Jakhini and Lalpur.

Healthcare: Better Access and Advanced Facilities

Varanasi’s health sector will see several upgrades. PM Modi will inaugurate new robotic surgery and CT scan facilities at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital.

He will lay the foundation for a Homoeopathic College and Hospital and inaugurate a new Animal Birth Control Centre and Dog Care Unit to enhance public and veterinary health.

Sports and Law Enforcement Infrastructure

In a move to promote sports, PM Modi will inaugurate a synthetic hockey turf at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Stadium. For law enforcement, a new Multipurpose Hall at PAC Ramnagar and foundation for Quick Response Team (QRT) Barracks will be launched.

PM-KISAN: Direct Support to Farmers

One of the major highlights of this visit is the release of the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN. PM Modi will transfer more than ₹20,500 crore to over 9.7 crore farmers across India via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

With this release, the total disbursed amount under the PM-KISAN scheme will cross ₹3.90 lakh crore. The scheme continues to be a lifeline for small and marginal farmers, especially during the Kharif season.

Inclusion and Empowerment

The PM will also inaugurate the Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita registration portal for events like sketching, painting, photography, and sports competitions. These community engagement initiatives promote creativity and youth participation.

In a gesture of inclusion, more than 7,400 assistive aids will be distributed to Divyangjan and elderly citizens, empowering them with mobility and dignity.

A Vision for Varanasi’s Future

Through these projects, PM Modi’s Varanasi visit stands as a strong signal of development, inclusiveness, and sustainability. The initiatives represent a commitment to building a Varanasi that honors its spiritual past while embracing a modern, people-first future.
