PM Modi’s Two-Day Visit to Gujarat to Launch Development Projects Worth Over ₹77,000 Crore and Celebrate 20 Years of Urban Growth

RR Team, May 25, 2025May 25, 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a significant two-day visit to Gujarat on the 26th and 27th of May, during which he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate a wide array of development projects aimed at accelerating the state’s progress and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. This visit is not only a testament to Gujarat’s rapid development journey but also reflects the deep commitment of the Prime Minister to his home state’s continued growth and modernization.

On the first day of his visit, the Prime Minister will arrive in Dahod, where he will inaugurate a state-of-the-art Locomotive Manufacturing Plant of Indian Railways. He will also flag off the first electric locomotive produced by the facility, a proud moment for the region and a significant boost to India’s green transportation infrastructure. These high-power electric locomotives are equipped with advanced features like regenerative braking, making them environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient, while also enhancing Indian Railways’ freight capabilities.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary in Dahod includes the dedication and foundation stone laying for several projects totaling around ₹24,000 crore. These initiatives encompass railway infrastructure, road connectivity, and developmental schemes of the Government of Gujarat. He will also launch the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad and a new express train connecting Valsad and Dahod, further strengthening Gujarat’s transport network.

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will reach Bhuj, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for massive development projects worth over ₹53,400 crore. These projects cover a wide range of sectors, including power transmission for the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, a new ultra super critical thermal power plant unit in Tapi, port development at Kandla, and critical water, solar, and road infrastructure. The scope and scale of these investments reflect a vision for a more self-reliant and energy-secure Gujarat.

On 27th May, the Prime Minister will participate in a significant milestone event in Gandhinagar—the celebration of 20 years of the Gujarat Urban Growth Story. Originally initiated by Narendra Modi during his tenure as Chief Minister in 2005, the Urban Development Year marked the beginning of a focused and sustained effort to reshape Gujarat’s cities with better planning, modern infrastructure, and cleaner environments. As part of the celebrations, he will launch the Urban Development Year 2025 and the State Clean Air Programme, underlining the importance of sustainable urban living.

Adding to the impact, Prime Minister Modi will dedicate over 22,000 new homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and release ₹3,300 crore to urban local bodies through the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, further empowering cities to pursue development and improve civic services.

This visit to Gujarat reflects not only a continuity of vision but also a deeply personal commitment to the people and progress of the state. The projects being launched and the initiatives being celebrated stand as enduring symbols of inclusive development, innovation, and the transformative power of long-term planning.
