PM Praises Egypt’s Role in Gaza Truce During Delhi Meeting

RR Team, October 17, 2025October 17, 2025
New Delhi, October 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr Badr Abdelatty in New Delhi, commending President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s vital diplomatic role in brokering the Gaza ceasefire. The meeting underscored India’s support for peace and dialogue in the Middle East while reaffirming its growing strategic ties with Egypt.

PM Modi Lauds Egypt’s Peace Efforts

During the talks, Prime Minister Modi praised President Sisi for Egypt’s “crucial role” in achieving the Gaza truce deal, which brought a temporary halt to escalating violence in the region. He expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for “lasting peace, stability, and humanitarian relief” for affected civilians.

Modi also commended Egypt’s efforts to facilitate dialogue among conflicting parties and highlighted Cairo’s role as a stabilizing force in the region. “India recognizes Egypt’s leadership and its commitment to peace diplomacy,” Modi reportedly said.

Expanding India–Egypt Bilateral Cooperation

Both leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across key areas including trade, defence, energy, and technology. They discussed ways to further strengthen cultural and people-to-people ties, which have deepened since President Sisi’s visit to India in January 2023 as the Republic Day chief guest.

Foreign Minister Abdelatty acknowledged India’s global influence and its growing engagement in the Middle East, emphasizing that Egypt looks forward to enhanced collaboration under the India–Egypt Strategic Partnership Framework.

India’s Stand on the Gaza Conflict

While India condemned civilian casualties in the Gaza conflict, it has consistently advocated for a two-state solution through dialogue and diplomacy. PM Modi reiterated that “peace and stability in West Asia are in the common interest of humanity.”

India had been invited to attend the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El Sheikh earlier this month. Although the Prime Minister did not attend, India was represented by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh, reaffirming New Delhi’s support for global peace initiatives.

Strengthening Strategic and Regional Cooperation

Egypt and India share a long history of diplomatic partnership, with ties dating back to the Non-Aligned Movement. Today, the cooperation spans areas such as renewable energy, defence manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and counter-terrorism.

Analysts believe that the recent meeting marks a continuation of India’s outreach to the Arab world, aligning with its strategic objectives of energy security, trade expansion, and regional peacebuilding.

Way Forward

Both nations agreed to maintain regular high-level exchanges and explore new collaborations in digital innovation, tourism, and cultural exchange. A joint statement issued after the meeting described the talks as “constructive and forward-looking.”

As global instability continues to affect the Middle East, India and Egypt’s partnership stands as a model of pragmatic diplomacy rooted in mutual respect and shared global priorities.
