PMG Reviews ₹75K Cr Infra Projects in NE States

PMG Accelerates Mega Projects in Northeast India

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) convened a high-level Project Monitoring Group (PMG) review on June 24, 2025, to assess and fast-track major infrastructure projects in the northeastern states of Jharkhand, Sikkim, Nagaland, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Focused Review of Critical Projects

Secretary DPIIT, Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, chaired the meeting, joined by officials from central ministries, state governments, and private stakeholders. The objective was to ensure prompt resolution of bottlenecks through strong inter-ministerial and state coordination.

A total of 18 issues affecting 11 projects worth over ₹34,213 crore were reviewed in Jharkhand. Sikkim, Nagaland, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh had projects collectively worth over ₹75,000 crore examined for progress and issue resolution.

Jharkhand: Powering Growth with Patratu Thermal Project

One major focus was the Patratu Thermal Power Station Expansion Project (Phase-I), being set up under NTPC/Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited. The 2,400 MW phase, part of a broader 4,000 MW capacity plan, is based on supercritical technology for higher efficiency and lower emissions. Water will be drawn from Nalkari Dam and coal from NTPC’s captive blocks.

Arunachal Pradesh: Tallest Dam and Clean Energy from Dibang Project

The Dibang Hydropower Project (2,880 MW), led by NHPC, is set to become India’s tallest dam and aims to generate 11,223 million units of clean energy yearly. Scheduled for commissioning by February 2032, it supports India’s Net Zero goals and will offer 13% of its power free to the state. The project also promises better flood control and employment opportunities.

Nagaland: Kohima Bypass to Boost Trade and Mobility

In Nagaland, the Kohima Bypass Road project by NHIDCL under MoRTH will reduce congestion in the state capital, improve connectivity, and promote trade and tourism. This road is vital for the region’s socio-economic upliftment.

Private Sector Push: GeoEnpro Petroleum in Arunachal

The meeting also reviewed a ₹1000 crore private sector project by GeoEnpro Petroleum Ltd. in Arunachal Pradesh. DPIIT advised the state to prioritize resolution and extend full support. This aligns with the government’s drive to enhance the Ease of Doing Business and encourage private investment.

Call for Proactive Collaboration and PMG Utilization

Secretary Bhatia emphasized the need for authorities to leverage the PMG portal (<a href=”https://pmg.dpiit.gov.in/\”>pmg.dpiit.gov.in) for fast-tracking projects. He reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to enabling effective coordination among ministries, states, and private players to ensure timely implementation.

Conclusion

The review meeting demonstrates India’s focus on infrastructure-led growth in the Northeast. With a pipeline of mega projects and improved monitoring, the region is poised for inclusive and sustainable development.
