Mechanised parcel handling and last-mile upgrades
Key reforms include mechanised parcel processing and standardized workflows across the country. Nodal Delivery Centres now handle mechanised and dedicated parcel delivery, reducing handling time and improving last-mile performance. The Mail and Parcel Optimization Project (MPOP) introduces automation, parcel sorters and end-to-end process optimisation to reduce delays and streamline throughput.
These upgrades are designed to better integrate India Post with e-commerce and logistics partners through API connectivity, enabling real-time order updates and improving interoperability with private platforms.
APT 2.0: real-time tracking, OTP deliveries and API integration
Under Advanced Postal Technology (APT) 2.0, customers now receive real-time tracking, OTP-based delivery confirmation and API integration that allows merchants and marketplaces to synchronise shipments directly with postal systems. These features bring postal parcel services closer to private logistics standards and improve trust for online sellers and buyers.
Supporting MSMEs and rural exporters
To boost exports from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the Department has set up 1,013 Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DGNKs). These centres offer export support to artisans, SHGs and small businesses in rural and semi-urban areas, providing a vital bridge to international markets and e-commerce channels.
DHRUVA and ‘Know Your DIGIPIN’: building a national address DPI
The Department has launched the “Know Your DIGIPIN” application as the foundational layer of the national Digital Address a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for addresses. The Central Sector Scheme ‘DHRUVA’ has been finalised to recognise address management as a foundational public infrastructure, enabling Address-as-a-Service (AaaS) for governance and inclusive service delivery.
Officials told Parliament that DHRUVA will streamline address data management, improve service reach and reduce frictions in delivery especially where inaccurate or inconsistent addresses previously delayed parcel fulfilment.
Partnerships and phased implementation
The transformation is being implemented in phases, following recommendations from the Mail Parcel Optimization Project. India Post is partnering with major e-commerce and logistics companies and is also serving multiple government ministries, including deliveries for the Ministry of MSME.
The phased approach allows the Department to pilot technologies, scale mechanisation where needed and monitor impacts on speed, cost and customer satisfaction before nationwide rollout.
