President Droupadi Murmu honored six personnel with the Kirti Chakra, including four posthumously, and awarded 33 Shaurya Chakras, seven of them posthumously, during the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan on May 22, 2025. These prestigious gallantry awards recognize extraordinary bravery and selflessness displayed by members of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and State and Union Territory Police in the face of grave danger while protecting the nation.
The recipients demonstrated remarkable courage, often putting their own lives at risk during counter-terror and counter-insurgency operations, particularly in challenging areas like Jammu & Kashmir and the North-East. Many of these brave individuals successfully neutralized dangerous terrorists, seized weapons, and ensured the safety of innocent civilians.
Indian Navy officers were also commended for their role in leading anti-piracy missions, which led to the surrender of pirates and the safe rescue of hostages. Their courage extended beyond combat, as they exhibited heroism during a fire on an oil tanker, risking their lives to prevent disaster. Similarly, Indian Air Force personnel showed exceptional presence of mind and bravery while managing life-threatening situations during aircraft rescues, skillfully avoiding harm to civilian areas.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel honored with the Shaurya Chakra were recognized for their steadfast commitment in operations against Left-Wing Extremism. Their relentless efforts resulted in the apprehension of Maoist insurgents and the recovery of illegal arms, contributing significantly to maintaining peace and security.
These awards are a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by these brave men and women who put their duty above personal safety to uphold the nation’s security and sovereignty.
