Tribute at Rashtrapati Bhavan and Sardar Patel Chowk
Earlier in the morning, President Murmu visited Sardar Patel Chowk in New Delhi to pay her respects before the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Later, at Rashtrapati Bhavan, she offered floral tributes and observed a moment of silence to honor the architect of modern India’s unification.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, including members of the President’s Secretariat, along with representatives from various ministries and government bodies. The event was marked by patriotic tunes and floral offerings symbolizing national unity.
Legacy of the Iron Man of India
Born on October 31, 1875, in Nadiad, Gujarat, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel played a pivotal role in the freedom movement and later in integrating more than 560 princely states into the Indian Union. His firm leadership and administrative vision earned him the title of the “Iron Man of India.”
President Murmu, in her message, emphasized that Patel’s vision continues to inspire the nation’s unity and good governance. “Sardar Patel’s life exemplifies courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication to the country. His contribution in building a united India will forever remain a guiding light,” she noted.
Nationwide Observance of Ekta Diwas
The occasion also coincides with National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas), observed across India on October 31 every year to commemorate Patel’s birth anniversary. Government offices, schools, and public institutions held Run for Unity events, seminars, and oath-taking ceremonies reaffirming commitment to national integration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders also paid homage to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, the world’s tallest statue dedicated to him. The 182-meter monument symbolizes the strength and resolve of a united India.
Enduring Inspiration for Future Generations
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s role in consolidating India’s territorial integrity and strengthening its democratic foundations remains a cornerstone of the country’s history. His pragmatic approach and visionary leadership continue to influence modern governance, federal relations, and administrative reforms.
As the nation marks his 150th birth anniversary, tributes poured in from across the country and abroad, reflecting the universal admiration for Patel’s monumental contribution. Ceremonial events and exhibitions were held nationwide to highlight his achievements and ideals.
President Murmu concluded her message by urging citizens to uphold Patel’s values of unity, discipline, and service to the nation. “Let us work together to build the India of Sardar Patel’s dreams strong, inclusive, and united,” she said.
