President Murmu Attends International Fleet Review 2026

RR Team, February 18, 2026February 18, 2026
Visakhapatnam: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday witnessed the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 at Visakhapatnam, where navies from over 70 countries assembled in a grand display of maritime strength and solidarity.
The International Fleet Review 2026 marks one of the largest multilateral naval gatherings hosted by India in recent years. The event brought together ships flying different national flags, symbolising unity, cooperation and shared commitment to maritime security.Addressing the gathering, the President described the Fleet Review as a powerful reflection of unity, trust and mutual respect among nations that share centuries-old maritime traditions.

‘United Through Oceans’ Sends Global Message

Highlighting the theme ‘United Through Oceans’, President Murmu said the presence of ships and sailors from diverse nations sends a positive message to the global community. She noted that collective naval strength, driven by commitment and resolve, can overcome emerging maritime challenges.

The President emphasised that India’s approach to global engagement, including maritime cooperation, is rooted in the ancient ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the belief that the world is one family.

According to her, sustainable growth, stability and global security can only be achieved through partnerships and cooperative frameworks. She reiterated that a sound maritime order rests on collective responsibility and coordinated action among like-minded partners.

Advancing India’s MAHASAGAR Vision

President Murmu said the Fleet Review also advances India’s vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions. The initiative reflects India’s broader maritime doctrine aimed at inclusive development and shared security in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

She underlined that cooperative maritime engagement strengthens trust and ensures safe sea lanes, which are critical for global trade and economic prosperity.

India, she added, remains committed to promoting an open, secure and rules-based maritime environment that benefits all nations.

Indian Navy’s Role in Security and Humanitarian Aid

The President commended the Indian Navy for its vigilance in safeguarding India’s maritime interests and contributing to stability in the wider maritime commons.

She noted that naval units deployed across strategic waters serve as credible instruments of deterrence and defence. Their presence ensures preparedness against evolving threats and maritime security challenges.

Beyond defence responsibilities, the Indian Navy has consistently acted as the first responder during humanitarian crises and natural disasters. Its swift assistance, delivered with compassion and professionalism, has earned global respect.

Strengthening Global Maritime Bonds

President Murmu also appreciated officers and sailors from friendly foreign navies participating in the Fleet Review. She described them as representatives of the finest traditions of their respective services and nations.

Their discipline, dedication and competence, she said, form the foundation of collective maritime security. Their participation has further strengthened bonds of trust and reaffirmed a shared commitment to peace and cooperation at sea.

She expressed confidence that navies represented at the Review will work together to ensure that oceans continue to serve as gateways for growth, prosperity and global well-being.
