AIIMS: A Symbol of Medical Excellence
The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, attended the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh on June 30, 2025. She praised the institute for setting high standards in medical education, research, and treatment.
“When we hear the name AIIMS, we envision world-class treatment and dedicated doctors. AIIMS institutes reflect India’s healthcare strength and innovation,” she said in her address.
Gorakhpur’s Role in Regional Healthcare
President Murmu expressed happiness over the rapid progress made by AIIMS Gorakhpur. She emphasized its growing reputation as a premier medical institution in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, serving not just the region but also neighbouring Bihar and Nepal.
She appreciated the institute’s focus on affordable and accessible healthcare, making quality treatment available to people from all backgrounds.
Doctors as Nation Builders
Highlighting the importance of doctors in shaping a healthy society, the President reminded young medical graduates that their role goes beyond treating patients. “Doctors lay the foundation of a healthy nation,” she noted.
She encouraged them to serve underprivileged areas, particularly in rural and tribal regions where quality healthcare is still lacking. “Healthy citizens are the backbone of a developed nation,” she said.

President Murmu stressed the value of compassion in medicine. She urged medical educators to foster doctor-patient communication skills and empathy in their teaching systems.
“Medicine is not just a profession. It is a service to humanity,” she said. The President advised the graduates to build careers grounded in compassion, empathy, and honesty.
