Honouring the Ideals of the Freedom Struggle
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu described Gujarat Vidyapith as a historic symbol of nation-building and self-reliance. She paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi, calling the university campus a “sacred land of the ideals of our freedom struggle.”
The President emphasized that students must be conscious of Gandhi’s vision and actively contribute to national initiatives, urging them to pledge their efforts towards making India a developed nation.
Promoting Self-Reliance and Entrepreneurship
Highlighting Gujarat’s longstanding culture of self-employment, the President encouraged students to spread this ethos across India. She stated, “Making India self-reliant is our national priority,” and urged students to participate in the national Swadeshi campaign, fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and local innovation.
Education as a Tool for Social Reconstruction
President Murmu emphasized that education plays a vital role in social reconstruction. She advised teachers and students to focus on character building and moral values, ensuring that knowledge is applied in practical, locally relevant ways.
“Education should not just be theoretical but a means to improve society,” she said, underlining the importance of linking learning to the local context for meaningful change.
Spiritual Engagement
Earlier in the day, the President visited the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka for Darshan and Aarti, marking a spiritual beginning to her engagements in Gujarat.
