President Murmu Opens 1066th Jayanthi at Suttur Math

President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, on Monday inaugurated the 1066th Jayanthi celebrations of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji at Malavalli in Karnataka’s Mandya district, highlighting the enduring relevance of spiritual wisdom in a rapidly changing world. Addressing a large gathering at the sacred Suttur Math, the President said that India’s civilisational strength lies in its ability to harmonise material progress with moral and spiritual values.
The President described saints as timeless guides who have illuminated humanity through compassion, sacrifice and service. She said that across centuries, their teachings have reminded societies that true greatness is rooted not in power or wealth, but in selfless action and inner strength. Among such revered spiritual leaders, Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji continues to inspire millions through his philosophy of social reform and inclusive upliftment.

Role of Spiritual Institutions in Nation-Building

President Murmu lauded the contribution of Suttur Math and its educational wing, the JSS Mahavidyapeetha, noting that it has emerged as one of India’s most respected institutions in the fields of education and social development. With a presence across India and abroad, the institution has played a significant role in shaping young minds while simultaneously delivering healthcare, empowering women, uplifting rural communities and preserving India’s cultural heritage.

She observed that such institutions demonstrate how spirituality, when combined with education and service, can become a powerful force for societal transformation. The President expressed satisfaction that JSS institutions have consistently worked to strengthen the foundations of an inclusive and compassionate society.

Spiritual Guidance in an Age of Uncertainty

Referring to global and domestic challenges, President Murmu said that the present age is marked by rapid technological change, social flux and uncertainty. In such times, she stressed, spiritual guidance is essential for nurturing social harmony, ethical leadership, youth empowerment and inner resilience. Values drawn from India’s spiritual traditions can provide stability and direction amid constant change.

Linking spiritual wisdom with national goals, the President said that as India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, both technological power and moral strength will be equally important. Development, she noted, cannot be measured by economic growth alone but must also reflect environmental responsibility, social inclusion and compassion.

Aligning Values with the Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047

President Murmu underlined that the Government of India is working with a holistic vision that integrates modern education with moral wisdom, innovation with sustainability, and progress with empathy. Institutions like Suttur Math, she said, can play a vital role in this national endeavour by guiding society through ethical leadership and community service.

She also highlighted that India’s greatest strength lies in its youth. Their energy, creativity and skills, she said, must be anchored in strong values and character. The destiny of the nation will be shaped not only by what young Indians know, but by how responsibly and purposefully they apply that knowledge.

Inspiring the Architects of Tomorrow

Urging spiritual and educational institutions to continue investing in the youth, the President called upon organisations like Suttur Math to inspire young minds and nurture responsible citizens. She said that the architects of tomorrow’s India must be guided by integrity, service and a deep sense of social responsibility.

The event witnessed participation from spiritual leaders, scholars, students and devotees from across the region, reflecting the enduring influence of Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Mahaswamiji’s teachings. The celebrations reaffirmed the timeless message that spirituality and social service remain inseparable pillars of India’s national life.
