Highlighting India’s unique geography, President Murmu noted that the country is surrounded by oceans on three sides, which hold untapped mineral reserves. She called upon geoscientists to develop technologies that can responsibly harness these resources while preserving marine biodiversity, contributing to national development.

Rare Earth Elements (REEs), crucial for modern technology—from smartphones and electric vehicles to defense and clean energy systems—were a central focus of the address. The President highlighted the complexity of refining REEs, noting that India must develop indigenous technologies to process these elements efficiently. This, she stated, is vital for national security, technological self-reliance, and the country’s journey toward becoming a developed nation.
