President Murmu to Attend Fleet Review in Vizag

New Delhi, February 16: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will travel to Andhra Pradesh on February 17 and 18 to witness the prestigious International Fleet Review at Visakhapatnam. The high-profile naval event will take place on February 18 along the eastern seaboard.
The visit underlines the significance of India’s maritime strength and its growing engagement with friendly foreign navies. The President’s presence at the review highlights the national importance of the event.

What is the International Fleet Review?

The International Fleet Review is a ceremonial gathering of naval ships from India and partner nations. It serves as a platform to showcase maritime capabilities, foster naval cooperation and strengthen diplomatic ties.

Fleet reviews are traditionally conducted by the head of state, who inspects the assembled ships. The event symbolises naval readiness, discipline and international goodwill.

At Visakhapatnam, a major base of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command, the review is expected to draw participation from multiple friendly countries, reflecting India’s expanding maritime partnerships.

Strategic Importance of Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, popularly known as Vizag, plays a crucial role in India’s maritime security architecture. It hosts key naval facilities and serves as a strategic hub on the Bay of Bengal.

The city has previously hosted large-scale naval exercises and international maritime events. Holding the International Fleet Review here underscores the operational and symbolic importance of the eastern coast.

The presence of the President is also expected to boost morale among naval personnel and highlight the government’s continued focus on maritime security.

President’s Two-Day Andhra Visit

According to an official release by the Press Information Bureau, the President will be in Andhra Pradesh for two days, February 17 and 18. The International Fleet Review will be the central highlight of her itinerary.

Such visits are part of the President’s constitutional role as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. By reviewing the fleet, she formally acknowledges the operational preparedness and professionalism of the Navy.

Showcasing India’s Maritime Vision

The International Fleet Review is not merely a ceremonial parade. It reflects India’s maritime vision and commitment to ensuring security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

India has steadily enhanced its naval capabilities in recent years, focusing on indigenisation, technological advancement and international collaboration. Events like the Fleet Review provide an opportunity to demonstrate these achievements before a global audience.

With the President scheduled to witness the review, the event is expected to attract significant national and international attention.
