President Murmu to Visit Manipur on December 11–12

RR Team, December 10, 2025
The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, will embark on a two-day official visit to Manipur on December 11 and 12, 2025. The visit comes at a crucial time for the northeastern state, which has been focusing on strengthening infrastructure, celebrating cultural heritage, and promoting peace-building initiatives. the President will participate in a series of public programmes, ceremonial events, and project inaugurations across Imphal and Senapati.

President Murmu’s arrival at Imphal on December 11 will mark the beginning of a wide-ranging agenda aimed at highlighting the state’s cultural identity and accelerating developmental progress. Her engagements will include interactions with the public, tributes to historic figures, and the launch of several new projects intended to strengthen local governance and community welfare. For Manipur, the visit represents not only a ceremonial occasion but also an opportunity to receive national attention on issues of infrastructural growth and cultural preservation.

Guard of Honour and Polo Exhibition on Day One

Upon landing at Imphal, President Murmu will be accorded a ceremonial guard of honour a traditional protocol extended to the Head of State. Following this, she will visit the iconic Mapal Kangjeibung, also known as the world’s oldest living polo ground. The President will witness a special polo exhibition match showcasing the state’s centuries-old legacy of ‘Sagol Kangjei,’ the traditional Manipuri version of polo. The venue holds profound cultural and historical significance, making the event an apt highlight of her official itinerary.

Later in the evening, the Government of Manipur will host a civic reception at the City Convention Centre, Imphal. During this programme, the President is expected to interact with state leaders, officials, eminent citizens, and representatives of various communities. She will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of multiple developmental projects that aim to improve infrastructure, connectivity, and public service delivery across different districts.

Honouring the Women Warriors of Manipur

On December 12, the President will begin her day by visiting the historic Nupee Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal. The site commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of Manipuri women who led two major uprisings — the Nupee Lal movements of 1904 and 1939 — against colonial oppression. President Murmu’s tribute at this memorial underscores the importance of women-led resistance and the state’s long-standing legacy of collective courage.

Public Address and Project Launches in Senapati

The second half of the President’s visit will take her to Senapati district, where she will address a public gathering. This programme will focus on the state’s ongoing developmental efforts and the central government’s commitment to supporting inclusive growth in the region. She will also lay foundation stones and inaugurate several key projects aimed at improving essential services, local infrastructure, and access to government schemes in Senapati.

According to official sources, the projects scheduled for launch reflect the government’s broader strategy to strengthen northeastern states through sustained investment, community-based development, and improved connectivity. Many of these initiatives fall under central sector programmes that prioritize border-area development, rural upliftment, and the preservation of indigenous cultures.

A Visit with National Significance

President Murmu’s Manipur visit carries symbolic and practical importance. It reinforces the Centre’s continued engagement with the northeastern region and highlights the state’s pivotal role in India’s cultural and strategic landscape. The President’s participation in heritage-oriented events  from polo preservation to women’s historical struggles  is expected to resonate widely with local communities.
