Addressing a packed gathering, the President described Manipur as a land of “resilience, courage, and extraordinary cultural richness.” She praised the people of the state for their contributions to sports, art, culture, armed forces, and public service, adding that Manipur’s identity has always been rooted in strength and dignity.President Murmu acknowledged the difficult period the state has experienced in recent years due to violent disturbances. She assured citizens that the Union Government considers the well-being of the people of Manipur a top priority and remains committed to restoring harmony, ensuring security, and accelerating inclusive development across the state. The President emphasised that development must reach “every corner of the state, from the hills to the valley.”

Unity, Empowerment and Inclusive Growth

Highlighting Manipur’s strategic importance as India’s gateway to Southeast Asia, the President said the state has immense potential driven by its young population, cultural vibrancy, and natural beauty. She noted that Manipur’s youth continue to excel in national and international arenas, especially in sports and entrepreneurship.

President Murmu made special mention of the state’s proud legacy of empowered women. Recalling the historic Nupee Lal movements popularly known as the Women’s Wars she said the bravery displayed by Manipuri women against colonial and feudal injustices remains a source of inspiration for every Indian today. These movements, she said, reflect the deep-rooted culture of courage and leadership among the women of Manipur.

She expressed confidence that communities across the state would work together to strengthen social harmony and rebuild bonds of trust. “The people of the hills and the valley have always complemented each other. I am confident that they will continue to walk together with renewed determination towards prosperity, peace, and happiness,” she said.

Commitment to a Safe and Strong Manipur

In a strongly worded appeal, President Murmu urged citizens to collectively build a future where “every child feels safe, every woman feels empowered, every community feels included, and every citizen moves ahead towards a brighter future.” She said that such inclusive progress is essential for Manipur’s long-term stability and growth.

The President stressed the importance of supporting development initiatives and fostering an atmosphere of trust, cooperation, and peaceful coexistence. She reiterated the Centre’s commitment to strengthening governance, improving infrastructure, and ensuring equitable opportunities across all districts.

Polo Exhibition at Mapal Kangjeibung

Earlier in the day, President Murmu visited the iconic Mapal Kangjeibung the world’s oldest living polo ground where she witnessed an exhibition match organised in her honour. The display celebrated the ancient Manipuri sport of Sagol Kangjei, the original form of modern polo. The event also showcased the state’s equestrian heritage and the skill of Manipuri players.

Her presence at the historic venue was seen as a recognition of Manipur’s central role in preserving and promoting polo, a sport that originated in the region centuries ago.
