President Visits Somnath, Gir Park & Interacts With Tribals

Gandhinagar, Gujarat: President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, commenced her visit to Gujarat on October 10, 2025, with a spiritual engagement at the iconic Somnath Temple. She performed Darshan and Puja, followed by paying floral tributes at the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel near the temple premises.
After her temple visit, President Murmu proceeded to Gir National Park in Sasan Gir, a major sanctuary for Asiatic lions. During her visit, she engaged with local tribal communities, including the Siddi tribal group, renowned for their preservation of cultural traditions and nature-friendly lifestyle.

Addressing the tribal population, the President emphasized the importance of education, urging parents to ensure quality learning opportunities for their children. She lauded the Siddi community for achieving a literacy rate exceeding 72 percent, highlighting it as a positive step toward social empowerment.

Tribal Welfare and Development Initiatives

President Murmu underscored the government’s various welfare programs aimed at tribal upliftment. She encouraged community members to actively seek information about developmental schemes, not only for personal benefit but also to extend the reach of these programs within their villages and communities.

“The nature-friendly lifestyle of the tribal community is a source of inspiration for all. With active participation from our tribal brothers and sisters, we are working to build a society where equality, justice, and respect prevail,” the President remarked. She emphasized the preservation of tribal culture and protection of their rights as central to India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Focus on Equality and Cultural Preservation

During her interaction, President Murmu highlighted the role of tribal communities in shaping an inclusive India. She urged everyone to safeguard their traditions while embracing educational and economic opportunities. The President’s visit reflects a commitment to bridging development gaps and fostering harmony between modern progress and cultural heritage.

The Gir National Park engagement also provided an opportunity to showcase wildlife conservation efforts, linking environmental stewardship with tribal participation in sustainable development.

Looking Ahead

President Murmu’s visit reiterates the government’s commitment to tribal welfare, education, and cultural preservation. By actively engaging with local communities, the President stressed the importance of awareness, participation, and collective growth as India moves toward its vision of a developed nation by 2047.
