Prime Minister Modi Celebrates 10 Years of Mudra Yojana, Hails Spirit of Grassroots Entrepreneurship

RR Team, April 8, 2025April 8, 2025

In a heartfelt and engaging interaction at his residence in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated a decade of the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) by meeting with beneficiaries whose lives have been transformed by the scheme. With a warm welcome and deep respect for the attendees, the Prime Minister marked the milestone by not just highlighting numbers, but by amplifying the voices of those who have used the scheme to change their destinies.

Listening to stories of resilience, courage, and innovation, the Prime Minister reflected on how Mudra Yojana has brought about a silent revolution across India. The initiative, launched to provide collateral-free loans to aspiring entrepreneurs, has become a symbol of hope, especially for women and the youth. Through these loans, individuals from small towns and rural communities have been able to start businesses, generate employment, and build self-reliant futures.

Among those who shared their journeys was an entrepreneur from Kerala who left his job in Dubai to start a solar energy business, another from Chhattisgarh who turned her passion for food into a thriving café, and a bakery owner from Kashmir who now provides jobs to over 40 people. Each story carried a message of empowerment—that the Mudra scheme is not merely a financial tool, but a catalyst for personal and societal transformation.

The Prime Minister’s interactions were marked by encouragement and empathy. He reminded beneficiaries of the importance of showing gratitude to those who supported them, like bank officials who approved their loans. He praised their achievements and asked them to share their stories widely to inspire others to take similar bold steps.

Women, in particular, were acknowledged as being at the forefront of this transformation. Entrepreneurs from Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh shared how they began with modest loans and, through sheer determination and responsible repayment, scaled their businesses and uplifted their communities. The Prime Minister lauded their discipline and resilience, highlighting how the scheme has enabled women to become not just earners, but leaders in their own right.

He underscored the fact that 52 crore loans have been disbursed under the scheme so far—a figure unmatched anywhere in the world—and an amount of ₹33 lakh crore has been distributed without the need for guarantees. This, he said, is a clear testament to the government’s faith in its citizens, especially the youth, and its vision of inclusive economic growth.

Drawing upon his personal experiences and anecdotes, Prime Minister Modi spoke about the lasting impact of such schemes. From tribal musicians in Gujarat who became professional artists to individuals who gave up government support after becoming financially independent, he painted a vivid picture of how empowerment at the grassroots level builds a stronger nation.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Mudra Yojana is for everyone—it’s a means for ordinary people to realize extraordinary dreams. He noted that the government is actively seeking feedback and conducting reviews to ensure the scheme evolves with the needs of its beneficiaries. His call to each successful entrepreneur was simple yet powerful: inspire others, support them in taking their first step, and become a part of a larger movement toward a self-reliant India.

This celebration of 10 years was more than a formal occasion—it was a recognition of millions of lives touched by trust, opportunity, and belief in the power of small beginnings. As the Prime Minister rightly put it, the sky is the limit for those who dare to dream and act.
