Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha has commented on Arvind Kejriwal’s decision to step down as Delhi Chief Minister, describing it as a form of “agnipariksha” or trial by fire. Kejriwal’s resignation, set to take effect in two days, is contingent upon receiving public validation of his integrity. This announcement follows his recent bail release from Tihar prison related to the Delhi liquor policy corruption case.
Chadha expressed confidence that the people of Delhi would affirm Kejriwal’s honesty through their votes for the AAP. He drew a parallel to a scene from Amitabh Bachchan’s film “Deewar,” suggesting that Delhi’s residents would publicly declare Kejriwal’s innocence.
During a party meeting this afternoon, Kejriwal revealed his plan to resign. “In two days, I will step down as Chief Minister. I will not assume the role again until the people deliver their verdict. With elections in Delhi still months away, I seek justice not just from the legal system but from the public. I will return to the Chief Minister’s chair only after receiving the people’s order,” he stated.
Kejriwal also called for the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for early next year, to be advanced to November, in line with the elections in Maharashtra. He urged Delhi’s residents to decide his fate and promised a new Chief Minister will be elected by AAP MLAs in the coming days.
