Fertilizer rake movement witnessed a consistent increase during 2025. Average rake loading rose from 72 rakes per day in July 2025 to 78 in August, reaching 80 in September. Between April and December 2025, net fertilizer supplies crossed 530.16 Lakh Metric Tons (LMT), surpassing the 500 LMT mark for the first time, marking a 12.2 percent increase over the same period in FY 2024–25 and 8.5 percent higher than the FY 2023–24 record.
Ample Availability Across States
The government ensured sufficient availability of all major fertilizers across the country. For urea, 350.45 LMT was made available against a requirement of 312.40 LMT. Similarly, major P&K fertilizers—including DAP, MOP, and NPKS—recorded availability of 287.69 LMT, exceeding the assessed requirement of 252.81 LMT. State governments complemented these efforts to ensure last-mile delivery to farmers, preventing shortages during critical cultivation periods.
Monthly Performance Highlights
Urea rake movement reached 10,841 rakes, an 8 percent increase from the previous year, while P&K fertilizers recorded 8,806 rakes, reflecting 18 percent growth. Month-wise data from July 2025 to January 2026 highlights sustained improvement, demonstrating the government’s focused monitoring, real-time coordination, and proactive bottleneck resolution.
Government Initiatives and Food Security
The seamless collaboration between Railways, fertilizer companies, and State governments underscores the government’s commitment to agricultural support and national food security. Efficient logistics, ample stock management, and continuous monitoring have ensured uninterrupted supply during peak Kharif and Rabi periods, reinforcing farmer confidence and boosting crop productivity.
