Raksha Mantri Reviews DMSRDE Innovations in Kanpur

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh visited the Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE), a DRDO laboratory in Kanpur, on November 30, 2025. The visit included an overview of cutting-edge research in defence materials and ongoing innovations at the lab.

Focus on Defence Materials and Technologies

During the visit, the Director of DMSRDE briefed Shri Rajnath Singh on the laboratory’s vision, mission, charter, and technology focus areas. Innovations in ceramics, ceramics matrix composites, stealth and camouflage materials, nanomaterials, coatings, polymers, rubbers, fuels, lubricants, technical textiles, and personal protection systems were demonstrated.

Key Achievements and Products

The Raksha Mantri appreciated the lab’s contributions, highlighting the successful development of the Bullet Proof Jacket (Level-6), Naphthyl Fuel for BrahMos Missile, High Pressure Polymeric Membrane for Indian Coast Guard ships, Silicon Carbide Fibre, and CBRN suits based on Activated Carbon Fabric. Various stealth products were also recognized. He emphasized that all technology developments should be aligned with end-user requirements.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Technology Transfers

Shri Rajnath Singh praised DMSRDE for its extensive technology transfers over the past two years, fulfilling the Government’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. He urged exploration of export potential for developed defence technologies and called for enhanced interactions with MSMEs and industries at DTTC, Lucknow, to meet industry requirements. The growing synergy between the laboratory, academia, and industry was commended for contributing to India’s Vision 2047.

Tribute to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

Before the lab tour, Shri Rajnath Singh offered floral tributes to former President Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam at his statue within the premises. He was welcomed by Secretary, Department of Defence (R&D) and Chairman DRDO, Dr Samir V Kamat.
