Rashtrapati Bhavan Closed Jan 21–29 for Republic Day

RR Team, January 17, 2026January 17, 2026
New Delhi: Public visits to Rashtrapati Bhavan will remain suspended for nine days later this month as preparations intensify for the Republic Day Parade and Beating Retreat Ceremony.
The iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India and a major heritage attraction in the national capital, will remain closed to visitors from January 21 to January 29, 2026. The temporary closure has been announced due to extensive security arrangements and logistical preparations ahead of the Republic Day Parade on January 26 and the Beating Retreat Ceremony that follows.

The information was shared through an official communication issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on January 17. According to the advisory, public entry for Circuit-1 visits at Rashtrapati Bhavan will not be permitted during this period.

Why the Closure Has Been Announced

Every year, Rashtrapati Bhavan plays a crucial role in Republic Day-related ceremonies. The sprawling complex becomes a focal point for high-level security drills, ceremonial rehearsals, and coordination among multiple government agencies.

Officials said the closure is essential to ensure smooth conduct of national events that involve the President of India, senior constitutional authorities, foreign dignitaries, and thousands of armed forces personnel.

Given the scale of operations and heightened security protocols, public access is temporarily restricted to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.

Impact on Tourists and Visitors

Rashtrapati Bhavan is among the most visited landmarks in Delhi, attracting thousands of domestic and international tourists each month. The closure may affect travel plans of visitors who had scheduled guided tours during the last week of January.

Authorities have advised visitors to plan their trips accordingly and avoid arriving at the premises during the closure period. Online booking slots for the affected dates have also been suspended.

Regular public visits are expected to resume after January 29, subject to security clearance and official confirmation.

Republic Day Preparations in Full Swing

India’s Republic Day Parade is one of the country’s most significant national events, showcasing military strength, cultural diversity, and constitutional values. Preparations typically begin weeks in advance, with rehearsals held at Kartavya Path and surrounding areas.

The Beating Retreat Ceremony, held a few days after Republic Day, marks the formal conclusion of celebrations and involves massed bands of the Indian Armed Forces performing at Vijay Chowk.

These events require extensive coordination, crowd control planning, and movement restrictions across central Delhi.

Official Advisory and Public Cooperation

Officials have appealed to the public to cooperate with the temporary restrictions and follow official updates. Visitors are encouraged to check updates on the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website and the Press Information Bureau portal.

Further announcements regarding reopening dates or changes in visiting circuits, if any, will be communicated through official channels.
