Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025 Honours Top Indian Scientists

The Government of India has announced the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, the country’s highest recognition for remarkable achievements in science, technology, and innovation. The award honours scientists, technologists, and innovators who have contributed significantly to India’s research and technological landscape.
The Puraskar is conferred under four categories: Vigyan Ratna (VR) for lifetime contributions, Vigyan Shri (VS) for distinguished work, Vigyan Yuva-Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (VY-SSB) for exceptional young scientists under 45, and Vigyan Team (VT) for collaborative achievements by teams of three or more researchers.

Domains and Recognition

The awards cover 13 scientific and technological domains, including Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Mathematics & Computer Science, Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Technology & Innovation, Atomic Energy, Space Science, and allied fields. The initiative reflects India’s commitment to fostering scientific excellence and nurturing innovation.

Nominations were invited from October 4 to November 17, 2024, through the official portal awards.gov.in. Submissions underwent rigorous scrutiny by a panel of eminent scientific leaders, including the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India and heads of national academies.
