Marking 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’
The event will open with the mass singing of the National Song, “Vande Mataram,” commemorating 150 years of its enduring role in India’s freedom movement and national consciousness. The ceremonial opening is expected to set a solemn and inspiring tone for the workshop.
Officials say the symbolic gesture reflects the broader vision of inclusive nation-building through accessible justice mechanisms.
Focus on Tele-Law and Legal Literacy
The Tele-Law programme, a flagship initiative under the DISHA scheme, leverages digital platforms and Common Service Centres (CSCs) to connect citizens especially in rural and remote areas with legal advice and consultation services.
A special segment titled “DISHA Yojana ke Aayaam: Sugam evam Sulabh Nyaya tak Pahuch” will showcase how the scheme promotes legal awareness through community outreach, digital campaigns and partnerships with educational institutions and civil society organisations.
Particular emphasis will be placed on ensuring simplified, technology-enabled access to justice for marginalised and vulnerable communities.
Spotlight on Jammu & Kashmir
Another segment, “DISHA in J&K: Ek Jhalak,” will highlight the implementation and impact of the scheme in the Union Territory. Officials will present data and case studies illustrating how Tele-Law services have expanded last-mile justice delivery across districts.
The workshop will also provide a platform to review progress, identify gaps and explore region-specific strategies to strengthen legal outreach in Jammu & Kashmir.
Felicitation and E-Calendar Release
One of the key highlights of the event will be the felicitation of individuals and institutions associated with the DISHA scheme for their contributions to legal literacy and access to justice.
The Department of Justice will also release the DISHA Annual e-Calendar, outlining its major campaigns, outreach programmes and awareness initiatives for the year ahead. The calendar is expected to serve as a structured roadmap for coordinated action.
Dignitaries and Participation
The workshop will be graced by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli.
Nearly 800 participants are expected to attend in person, including judges of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court, officials from the High Court Registry, representatives of the State Legal Services Authority, bar associations, government counsels, judicial officers and Village-Level Entrepreneurs from CSCs.
Faculty members and law students from the Central University of Kashmir, Kashmir Law College and Vitasta School of Law and Humanities will also take part. Additional stakeholders and citizens will join virtually.
Strengthening Last-Mile Justice Delivery
The Regional Workshop on Tele-Law forms part of the Government of India’s broader strategy to promote awareness, capacity-building and technology-driven justice delivery systems.
Such workshops are being organised across states and Union Territories to engage with local administrations, review implementation progress and enhance the effectiveness of Access-to-Justice initiatives.
The Srinagar workshop is expected to serve as a significant milestone in reinforcing citizen-centric justice services in Jammu & Kashmir, aligning digital innovation with constitutional commitments of equality and fairness.
