National Energy Conservation Day was celebrated today at the Dr. Tenneti Viswanatham Auditorium of the Learning and Development Center at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The event was inaugurated by Sri A.K. Bagchi, Director (Projects) and additional charge Director (Operations) of RINL, alongside Sri S.C. Pandey, Director (Personnel), Sri Ch.S.V.G. Ganesh, Director (Finance), Sri GVN Prasad, Director (Commercial), Sri R. Mohanti, CGM (Works)-Incharge, and Sri A.K. Sobti, CGM (Marketing) of RINL.
Sri K. Sudhakar, GM (EMD)-Incharge, welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the various energy conservation measures implemented at RINL. He highlighted the plant’s role as a pioneer in adopting energy-efficient technologies, including CDQ, Top Pressure Recovery Turbines, LD Gas Recovery, Sinter Cooler Waste Heat Recovery, PCI in Blast Furnace, and power generation from BF gas.
Sri R.Mohanti, CGM (Works)-Incharge, spoke about the Green Steel Taxonomy initiative launched by the Ministry of Steel, in alignment with the Government of India’s PANCHAMRIT energy policy, and assured that RINL was fully committed to its implementation.
During the event, awards were presented to various departments at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant for their innovative energy conservation projects and overall energy performance. Additionally, prizes were awarded to employees and schoolchildren who excelled in competitions held as part of the Energy Conservation awareness campaign.
The program featured two prize-winning skits—one by the Visakhapatnam Steel General Hospital department and another by young children—highlighting the importance of energy conservation. Around 3,500 participants, including representatives from the Steel Executive Association, trade unions, SC & ST Association, OBC Association, WIPS, and a large number of employees, actively participated in the Energy Conservation Day celebrations at RINL.
