Russia Strikes Kill 4 in Ukraine, Zelenskyy Urges Patriots

At least four people were killed and 20 wounded in Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine overnight into Saturday, intensifying President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s calls for Western air defense support. The strikes targeted Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk region, leaving buildings damaged and residents in shock.

Impact on Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk

In Kyiv, two people were killed and 13 injured after a ballistic missile hit the city in the early hours. Fires broke out in a non-residential building, while debris from intercepted missiles damaged nearby structures, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned citizens on Telegram of the ongoing attacks.

Meanwhile, the Dnipropetrovsk region saw two fatalities and seven injuries. Apartment buildings and private homes were damaged, underscoring the growing civilian toll amid the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine’s Air Defense and Russian Attacks

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched nine missiles and 62 drones overnight, with four missiles and 50 drones intercepted. Russia claimed its defenses shot down 121 Ukrainian drones over its territory, highlighting the escalating aerial confrontations between the two nations.

Zelenskyy Calls for Patriot Systems

President Zelenskyy emphasized the critical need for Patriot defense systems to protect Ukrainian cities from such attacks. “America, Europe, and G7 countries can help ensure that these attacks no longer threaten lives,” he said. Ukraine is seeking 25 Patriot systems from the United States to strengthen its air defense network.

During his visit to London, Zelenskyy met European leaders to secure military aid and long-range missiles capable of deterring further Russian aggression, particularly as winter approaches.

Diplomatic Efforts Amid Conflict

Kirill Dmitriev, Russian envoy for economic cooperation, indicated progress toward a potential diplomatic resolution. A planned summit between U.S. and Russian leaders is expected to occur later. Meanwhile, Russia remains opposed to an immediate ceasefire, with both sides negotiating cautiously under global scrutiny.
