Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh – Security has been significantly increased in Sambhal district ahead of Friday prayers and the court’s likely submission of the survey report on the Shahi Jama Masjid. This follows ongoing claims that a temple once stood on the site.
Tension has been rising in Sambhal since November 19, when a court-ordered survey of the mosque was conducted after allegations that the Harihar Temple previously existed at the same location.
Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh confirmed that additional security has been deployed around sensitive religious sites and the Chandausi court.
Court Hearing and Survey Report
Gopal Sharma, the lawyer for the Hindu side, stated that during Friday’s court hearing, they would present their response, and the court commissioner is expected to submit the findings from the survey on the disputed site. Our next steps will depend on the survey report, Sharma added.
Shakeel Ahmed Warsi, representing the Muslim side, confirmed they are prepared to present their case. We have all the necessary evidence and will first request a copy of the survey report before presenting our side in court, Warsi said.
Violence and Clashes
Tensions escalated on November 24, when protesters gathered near the mosque, clashing with security forces, resulting in stone-pelting and arson. Tragically, four people lost their lives, and many more were injured in the violence. The situation remains tense, and local authorities are closely monitoring developments to ensure peace and order.
