Postmen as Bridges of Trust
Addressing the gathering in fluent Marathi, Shri Scindia lauded the unwavering service spirit of postal employees. He described postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks as “bridges of trust” who deliver not only letters but also banking, insurance and essential government services to every corner of the country.
He underlined that India Post remains one of the most trusted institutions in the country, especially in rural and remote areas, where postal workers are often the first point of contact between citizens and the government.
Reforms Focused on Employee Welfare
The Union Minister recalled several welfare-oriented reforms implemented for postal employees and Gramin Dak Sevaks in recent years. These included admission of GDS children to Kendriya Vidyalayas, enhancement of allowances, introduction of redesigned uniforms and jackets, and implementation of Project Arrow.
He emphasised that these initiatives were the result of the government’s resolve to listen to its field workforce and empower them with dignity, security and opportunities for growth.
India Post’s Unmatched Reach
Highlighting the scale and reach of India Post, Shri Scindia noted that the department operates over 1.65 lakh post offices serving nearly 6.5 lakh villages across the country. He said this unmatched network gives India Post a unique responsibility and opportunity in nation-building.
The Minister called for transforming the Department of Posts into a modern logistics and service powerhouse driven by innovation, reliability and strong values, while retaining its core ethos of “Seva Bhav” — service to the people.
From Dakiya to Digital Enabler
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Dakiya ab bank laya”, Shri Scindia highlighted how India Post has evolved far beyond traditional mail delivery. He said the postal network today plays a key role in financial inclusion, direct benefit transfers and delivery of citizen-centric services.
According to the Minister, this transformation demonstrates how a legacy institution can adapt to the needs of a modern, digital India while continuing to serve the most marginalised communities.
Felicitation of Top Performers
A major highlight of the Sammelan was the felicitation of 10 top-performing Gramin Dak Sevaks from Maharashtra for their exceptional service. Shri Scindia personally interacted with each awardee and helped them don the new India Post jacket, cap and postman bag.
The gesture symbolised dignity, identity and pride in postal service, drawing loud applause and emotional appreciation from the large gathering.
Dignitaries and Use of AI Technology
The dais was shared by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, MP from Kolhapur, Dhananjay Mahadik, MP from Kolhapur, Jitendra Gupta, Director General of Postal Services, Suvendu Kumar Swain, Member (Personnel), Postal Services Board, and Amitabh Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle.
The event also showcased the AI-powered “Bhashini” platform developed under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The platform enabled real-time multilingual communication, reflecting the government’s vision of an inclusive and linguistically accessible Digital India.
Call to Serve with Pride
In his concluding remarks, Shri Scindia urged all postal employees to continue serving the nation with pride, dedication and innovation. He called upon them to carry forward the spirit of transformation and national service as India Post enters a new era.
Expressing gratitude to the Gramin Dak Sevaks for their tireless efforts, the Union Minister concluded his address with the words, “Thank you, Jai Hind.”
