Scindia Unveils ₹645Cr Boost for Nagaland Growth

RR Team, December 5, 2025December 6, 2025
Union Minister for Communications and DoNER, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, participated in the traditional Naga stone-pulling ceremony at Tuophema Village during the Hornbill Festival and announced a major development package for Nagaland worth more than ₹645 crore. The announcement included inauguration of completed works totalling over ₹202 crore and the laying of foundation stones for new projects worth about ₹443 crore.
Dressed in Angami attire, Mr Scindia joined villagers in the stone-pulling ritual and highlighted the need to preserve cultural roots while accelerating development. He framed the package as part of the Government’s Act East thrust and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to place the Northeast at the centre of India’s growth story.

Completed projects inaugurated

The minister dedicated five completed projects worth a combined ₹202 crore. These include a 132 kV sub-station upgrade at Nagarjan, Dimapur (₹24.46 crore); a Teachers Training & Exam Centre with residential facilities (₹20 crore); ICT infrastructure roll-out in 190 schools (₹18.95 crore); the Chendang Saddle–Kohima Road Phase-II (12.57 km, ₹45.59 crore); and the AT Road upgrade from Tssurang to Impur including three bridges (26.335 km, ₹93.98 crore).

Officials said these projects aim to strengthen transmission, school connectivity and key road corridors that link markets and services across the state.

New projects and foundations stones laid

Mr Scindia laid foundation stones for ten projects worth roughly ₹443 crore. Notable projects include a multispeciality hospital at Chümoukedima under PM-DevINE (₹58.7 crore), a 50-bed hospital at Peren HQ (₹44.6 crore), the Kohima Sports Centre (IG Stadium, ₹72.6 crore), and the Nagaland Innovation Hub (₹19.6 crore).

Infrastructure works include new and upgraded roads such as Thizama–Chiethu Airport Road (18.24 km, ₹42.6 crore), Phomching–Longding Road (20.9 km, ₹58 crore) and Old Peren–Chalkot Road (16.5 km, ₹46.3 crore). An 11.5 MW Dzuza small hydro project (₹22.8 crore) and a new DLC complex at Peren (₹21.9 crore) were also announced.

Health, education and innovation focus

The development package places emphasis on healthcare expansion, sports infrastructure and digital education. The multispeciality and district hospitals will augment tertiary and secondary care, while ICT inputs for schools are designed to bridge the digital divide for students across remote districts.

Officials said the Nagaland Innovation Hub will support local entrepreneurship, incubate start-ups and connect youth to skilling and market opportunities, aligning with broader efforts to nurture talent in the Northeast.

Act East and regional connectivity

Scindia linked the announcements to Prime Minister Modi’s Act East vision, underscoring the strategic importance of improved road and airport connectivity in integrating Nagaland with regional economic corridors. He noted that better transport links will accelerate trade, tourism and access to health and education services.

State and central officials said the road upgrades will prioritise durability and climate resilience given the region’s terrain and monsoon patterns.

Partnership with the state and local communities

The minister emphasised close coordination with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and state departments to fast-track project delivery. He praised local traditions and said integration of cultural identity with development will ensure inclusive outcomes for farmers, youth and women.

“This development push aims to unlock Nagaland’s potential by combining infrastructure, health, education and innovation,” Mr Scindia said, adding that additional projects are in the pipeline and will be progressed in consultation with state leaders.
