Shivraj Chouhan’s Visit Boosts J&K Agri and Rural Growth

RR Team, July 3, 2025July 2, 2025

Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Visit J&K on July 3–4

Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will visit Jammu and Kashmir on 3rd and 4th July 2025. His two-day itinerary includes high-level review meetings, academic ceremonies, and direct interactions with farmers and rural women entrepreneurs.

This visit marks a continued effort to strengthen agriculture and rural infrastructure in the Union Territory, with a focus on natural farming, oilseed development, and women-led growth models.

Key Meetings in Srinagar

On July 3, Shri Chouhan will begin his visit with a review meeting at the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, involving senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Rural Development.

Later in the day, he will attend a Consultative Committee meeting focusing on:

  • Natural Farming

  • National Oilseeds Mission

In the evening, he will be hosted by Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha at the Raj Bhavan for a courtesy interaction.

Academic Engagement at SKUAST Convocation

On July 4, Shri Chouhan will serve as the Chief Guest at the 6th Convocation Ceremony of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K). The event will take place at the Shalimar Convention Centre.

The ceremony will also be graced by:

  • Lieutenant Governor and University Chancellor Shri Manoj Sinha

  • Chief Minister and Pro-Chancellor Shri Omar Abdullah

At the convocation:

  • 5,250 students will receive degrees (UG, PG, PhD)

  • 150 gold medals and 445 merit certificates will be awarded for academic excellence

Field Visits to Orchards and Farmer Interaction

After the convocation, Shri Chouhan will visit apple and saffron orchards at the SKUAST-K campus. He will interact with horticulture scientists and progressive farmers to discuss sustainable practices and high-yield crops suited for the region.

He will also meet with ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in Khonmoh village—a group of women achieving rural prosperity through agri-enterprises. These interactions reflect the Minister’s focus on women-led rural transformation and community empowerment.

Continued Push Under Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan

This visit is a follow-up to Shri Chouhan’s earlier engagement in Jammu under the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, where he held direct conversations with local farmers. His field-oriented approach is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive and sustainable development.

By directly engaging with stakeholders on the ground, the Minister aims to:

  • Promote climate-resilient farming

  • Encourage organic and natural cultivation

  • Enhance rural livelihood opportunities

Conclusion

Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir represents a strategic outreach to promote sustainable agriculture and rural empowerment. His meetings and engagements across government, academia, and communities underline a holistic development model—one that supports farmers, recognizes academic excellence, and celebrates women’s contributions to the rural economy.

This hands-on approach strengthens the Centre’s mission to build a self-reliant and prosperous Bharat, starting from the grassroots
