Shivraj Singh Chouhan Addresses Farmers in Rajasthan

RR Team, December 23, 2025December 23, 2025
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, participated in a massive Farmers’ Conference at Merta City in Nagaur district, Rajasthan, today. On this occasion, he transferred financial assistance under various schemes into the bank accounts of farmers, along with key state and central officials including Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma and Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena.
Shri Chouhan inaugurated the distribution of ₹2,089 crore for the construction of 12,600 roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Additionally, ₹100 crore has been allocated under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) for 18,500 beneficiaries.

The Minister highlighted that over ₹187 crore has been directly transferred to 35,800 farmers’ bank accounts, while more than ₹617 crore in agricultural input subsidies has reached over 5 lakh farmers for disaster management and civil security. Moreover, ₹151 crore has been credited to 5 lakh milk producers of the state. Low-income rural families received ₹1.20 lakh for the construction of permanent houses and basic amenities.

Progress in Agriculture and Crop Insurance

Shri Chouhan stated that Rajasthan has achieved remarkable growth in agriculture, with new high-yielding and climate-resilient seed varieties and reduced production costs. Farmers received additional crop insurance support under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, with total assistance reaching ₹9,000 per farmer, reducing the cost of production significantly. Over the past two years, the state has received ₹29,000 crore under the scheme.

The Minister also emphasized the doubling of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) under the central government’s leadership. This year, 3.05 lakh metric tonnes of moong worth ₹2,680 crore are being procured from Rajasthan. Groundnut procurement of 5.54 lakh metric tonnes and soybean procurement of 2.65 lakh metric tonnes are underway, ensuring fair prices for farmers.

‘Viksit Bharat – G Ram G’ and Rural Development

Addressing the conference, Shri Chouhan spoke on the newly enacted ‘Viksit Bharat – G Ram G’ law, asserting it will transform villages and enhance employment for rural workers. The number of employment days has increased from 100 to 125, with Gram Panchayats now preparing development plans for their villages. Around ₹7.5 lakh will be spent per village over five years, prioritizing water conservation and worker welfare.

The Minister underlined the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency. Under MGNREGA, annual expenditure has risen to ₹1.11 lakh crore, with a proposed budget of ₹1,51,282 crore for the current year. Administrative expenditure has been increased to 9% to ensure timely salary payments to employment assistants, technical staff, and panchayat secretaries.

Future Measures

Shri Chouhan further announced plans to introduce a Seed Act and a Bill to prevent fake fertilizers and spurious manure in the next parliamentary session. Stringent penalties will be imposed on those who deceive farmers, ensuring improved productivity, quality, and safety in agriculture.
