Shoaib Akhtar Slams Pakistan as ‘Weak Team’ After India Loss

RR Team, September 23, 2025September 23, 2025
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has sparked a fresh controversy with his remarks following Pakistan’s defeat to India in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash. India comfortably chased down Pakistan’s 171-run target in just 18.5 overs, thanks to a dominant opening partnership by Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.
Speaking on PTV Sports after the game, Akhtar admitted that Pakistan is no longer the cricketing powerhouse it once was. He bluntly described his team as “weak” and argued that India’s victory should not be seen as a real contest. “You are beating a weak team. Because there is no rivalry, whose loss is it? It is not our loss because we are used to it. World cricket is suffering,” Akhtar said.

India’s Recent Dominance

The Indian cricket team has maintained a strong record against Pakistan in recent years. From 1952 to 2025, both sides have met 210 times across formats, with Pakistan winning 88 and India 78, while 38 ended in draws. However, the balance has shifted in the modern era.

In the last seven encounters, Pakistan has failed to register a single win against India. Out of 136 ODIs between the two, India has secured 58 victories, compared to Pakistan’s 73. But in T20Is, India has dominated, winning 12 of the 15 matches played.

Akhtar Blames Team Management

Akhtar was highly critical of Pakistan’s management, accusing them of lacking intent to build a strong team. He expressed disappointment in captain Salman Ali Agha, labeling him the “weakest link” in the side. “What does he do? He comes at No. 6, but compare him with India, who have Hardik Pandya or Tilak Varma at the same spot. Our captain doesn’t match that standard,” Akhtar remarked.

The former speedster also questioned head coach Mike Hesson’s decisions, arguing that the leadership setup lacks vision to restore Pakistan’s cricketing glory.

Calls for Revival of Rivalry

Akhtar lamented the missed opportunities of the past, pointing out that India and Pakistan avoided bilateral series for nearly a decade and a half. “You did not play us when Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and I were at our peak. That would have been real rivalry. Now, there is no contest,” he said.

His comments reflect a growing sentiment among former cricketers that Pakistan cricket needs structural reforms and strong domestic systems to rebuild competitiveness. Until then, India vs Pakistan matches may lose the spark that once defined them.

Fans React to Akhtar’s Statement

The remarks triggered heated debates on social media. While some Pakistani fans agreed with Akhtar’s criticism of the team’s decline, others accused him of demoralizing players during a crucial tournament. Indian fans, meanwhile, highlighted the growing gulf between the two cricketing giants.

As the Asia Cup 2025 heads into its final stages, the spotlight remains on Pakistan’s ability to bounce back. But with internal criticism mounting and India in top form, the road ahead looks increasingly difficult for the Men in Green.
