Sigachi Blast: Reactor Explosion Kills 10, Stock Falls 11%

RR Team, June 30, 2025June 30, 2025

Telangana, June 30, 2025: A tragic incident rocked the Pashamylaram industrial area of Telangana as a reactor explosion at Sigachi Industries claimed the lives of at least 10 individuals and left many more critically injured. The pharmaceutical unit, which specializes in excipient manufacturing, was engulfed in flames following the blast, prompting an emergency response from local authorities.

Massive Explosion Rocks Pharmaceutical Unit

According to initial reports, the explosion occurred during regular operations at the Sigachi plant. One of the chemical reactors is believed to have malfunctioned, resulting in a catastrophic blast that demolished parts of the facility. Eyewitnesses reported seeing dense smoke and flames erupting from the site, followed by chaos and panic among workers.

Authorities quickly dispatched eleven fire tenders to the scene. Rescue operations began immediately, with emergency teams rushing the injured to nearby hospitals. Over 20 people have suffered serious injuries, many with severe burns and trauma.

Collapse and Casualties

News18 reported that one of the buildings within the plant compound completely collapsed due to the intensity of the blast. Rescue teams are working through the debris to recover any remaining bodies or survivors.

Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj confirmed that while 10 deaths were reported, the numbers could rise as the search continues. “Till now, we haven’t recovered any bodies; rescue operation is ongoing,” he told ANI earlier today.

Sigachi Share Price Tanks Post-Incident

The tragic incident has had an immediate impact on Sigachi Industries’ stock performance. The shares crashed over 11% on June 30, closing at ₹48.95 apiece. The company witnessed unusually high trading activity, with over 319 lakh shares changing hands — five times its 10-day average volume.

Probe Ordered, Safety Under Scrutiny

Authorities have ordered a thorough investigation into the explosion. Industrial safety norms and compliance mechanisms are under scrutiny, with questions being raised about the plant’s safety protocols and hazard management. The state government is expected to form a special committee to evaluate and report on the cause and accountability of the incident.

Ripple Effect on Pharma Sector

This explosion is likely to raise concerns across the Indian pharma sector, especially regarding chemical reactor safety in small and mid-sized units. The Pashamylaram region, home to numerous pharmaceutical and chemical companies, may witness stricter inspections in the coming weeks.

Conclusion

As rescue operations continue and the full extent of the tragedy unfolds, the Sigachi Industries blast serves as a grim reminder of the importance of industrial safety in high-risk environments. Stakeholders — from regulatory bodies to company management — must now come together to prevent such devastating incidents in the future.
