Aurangabad, July 14, 2025: A major step towards building a future-ready industrial ecosystem in Maharashtra is underway. A state-of-the-art 20,000 sq. ft. Skill Development Centre is being set up at Aurangabad Industrial City (AURIC) in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed next week.
This initiative was confirmed by Shri Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), during his visit to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on July 12. The skill centre is designed to prepare the workforce for modern manufacturing, R&D, and startup ventures.
With CII’s industry expertise and government backing, the centre is expected to become a hub for upskilling youth and attracting Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and R&D investment.
Driving Innovation in AURIC Smart City
AURIC, developed under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), is being built over 10,000 acres in two key nodes—Shendra and Bidkin. Over 60% of the land is reserved for industry, while the rest supports residential, commercial, and institutional facilities. The city features underground utilities, high-speed internet, treated water reuse, and smart governance systems.
Such integrated infrastructure makes AURIC an ideal destination for manufacturing and innovation, aligning with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Key Stakeholder Insights from Industry Meet
During an industry interaction session at AURIC Hall, representatives from MASSIA, CMIA, CII, FICCI, and ASSOCHAM shared critical suggestions. These included:
- Improved connectivity between Aurangabad, Hyderabad, and Chennai
- Dedicated Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility
- Setting up a Vande Bharat train terminal
- Local train services between Jalna and Waluj
- Affordable housing via MHADA schemes
- Dedicated chemical zone for industrial safety
Notably, industry leaders urged the government to:
- Increase MSME land allocation from 10% to 40%
- Reserve 10% land for startups
- Strengthen soft infrastructure such as digital tools, transport, and education facilities
Startup India Spirit Shines in Marathwada
The visit began with an engaging interaction at Marathwada Accelerator for Growth and Incubation Council (MAGIC). Secretary Bhatia praised local startups for their innovative spirit. He reaffirmed the Centre’s support through Startup India, Fund of Funds, and sector-specific schemes designed especially for Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
Entrepreneurs at MAGIC highlighted challenges around funding, mentorship, and market access. The government assured focused action to turn Aurangabad into a startup powerhouse.
Review of Industrial Giants at Bidkin and Shendra
The Secretary toured major industrial sites in Bidkin, including:
- JSW Green-tech Ltd
- Toyota Kirloskar’s facility
- Water Treatment Plant
At the Shendra Industrial Area, he visited leading companies like:
- NLMK India
- Hyosung T&D Pvt. Ltd.
- Coatall Films Pvt. Ltd.
These high-value manufacturers were applauded for creating jobs, adopting sustainable practices, and contributing to India’s industrial future.
Maharashtra’s Strategic Vision for Industrial Growth
Dr. P. Anbalagan, Secretary of Industries, Government of Maharashtra, presented a strategic roadmap focused on key projects like:
- MITL (Maharashtra Industrial Township Ltd)
- MMLP (Multi-Modal Logistics Parks)
These initiatives aim to streamline supply chains, support MSMEs, and enhance logistics efficiency across the region.
Transparent, Tech-Driven Governance
AURIC is also leading by example in governance and sustainability. It features:
- Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC)
- Advanced SCADA systems
- Air quality sensors and CCTV surveillance
- e-Land Management System for transparent land allotment
- Power supply at lower tariffs under its own electricity license
Remarkably, 42% of its water needs are met by treated wastewater—a benchmark in sustainable industrial planning.
