Smt. Savitri Thakur to Head India at UN Social Meet

RR Team, January 31, 2026February 1, 2026
New Delhi: Smt. Savitri Thakur, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, is set to lead the Indian delegation at the 64th Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development (CSocD) at the UN Headquarters in New York. The session, scheduled annually, provides a global platform for Member States to review progress and exchange best practices on social development issues.
The Commission for Social Development, a key functional body under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), focuses on advancing international cooperation in areas of social inclusion, equity, and welfare-oriented policies. India’s participation underscores the country’s continued commitment to constructive engagement on global social policy priorities.

During the session, Smt. Thakur is expected to interact with representatives from UN agencies and other Member States, sharing India’s experiences and learning from international best practices. Her leadership reflects the Government of India’s focus on strengthening social development frameworks both domestically and at the global stage.

India’s proactive involvement in the 64th CSocD session also highlights the country’s dedication to achieving inclusive growth and promoting welfare initiatives that address the needs of all communities. By participating in discussions on social development policies, India aims to contribute meaningfully to global social progress.

The delegation will also emphasize India’s experience in implementing social welfare schemes that enhance equity, social inclusion, and opportunities for vulnerable sections of society, including women and children. Smt. Thakur’s engagement is anticipated to facilitate dialogue on practical strategies and collaborative frameworks for sustainable development.

India’s participation in the United Nations Commission for Social Development reaffirms its role as a responsible global partner committed to advancing equity and inclusive growth through multilateral cooperation.
