Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, recently held a virtual meeting with representatives from major South Indian Film Associations. Officials from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh participated, alongside key figures from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, including Secretary Sanjay Jaju and Joint Secretaries C. Senthil Rajan and Dr. Ajay Nagabhushan M.N.
The discussion centered around the upcoming World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, a groundbreaking event set to take place from May 1 to 5 in Mumbai. Dr. Murugan emphasized the importance of strong representation from the South Indian film industry at this international platform. He urged directors, producers, actors, and technicians to take part actively, ensuring their voices are heard in shaping the future of the media and entertainment industry.
One of the key proposals put forth during the meeting was the establishment of a dedicated South Indian film pavilion at WAVES 2025. This would provide a space to showcase the region’s rich cinematic contributions, giving global audiences a closer look at the innovation and artistry that define South Indian cinema. Leading production houses were also encouraged to be part of this initiative, strengthening India’s position as a creative powerhouse on the global stage.
Dr. Murugan reiterated that WAVES 2025 aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of bringing all media segments under one umbrella, reinforcing India’s role as a leader in creative industries. With the media landscape undergoing rapid transformation due to artificial intelligence, digital streaming, intellectual property concerns, and misinformation challenges, the summit is set to address these critical issues while fostering cultural diversity and innovation.
