Special Trains for Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Martyrdom Day

RR Team, November 20, 2025November 20, 2025
Indian Railways has announced dedicated special train services to facilitate the smooth movement of devotees during the commemoration of the Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The initiative aims to ensure dignified and comfortable travel for pilgrims heading to Sri Anandpur Sahib, where large gatherings are expected to honour the ninth Sikh Guru, revered as Hind Di Chadar.

The announcement was released by Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries. He noted that the Railways remains committed to supporting religious events of national significance and ensuring seamless mobility for all passengers.

Railways Gears Up for Increased Pilgrim Traffic

With thousands expected to travel from across the country, the Railways has designed two special services—one originating from Patna Sahib and the other from Old Delhi. Both routes have been selected to accommodate major pilgrim hubs and ensure easy access to Sri Anandpur Sahib during the sacred observance.

Officials noted that crowd management, safety and punctuality will be prioritized. Additional staff deployment, monitoring officers and station-level coordination teams will be activated to streamline operations during peak movement days.

As per the Railways, the special services will begin on 22 November 2025 and continue until 25 November 2025, covering the key dates of the observance period.

Patna Sahib Special Train: 22-Coach Service

A 22-coach special service, covering all passenger classes, will depart from Patna on 23 November at 06:40 hrs. The train is scheduled to reach Sri Anandpur Sahib at 04:15 hrs the next day, providing overnight travel convenience for devotees.

The return journey will start from Sri Anandpur Sahib on 25 November at 21:00 hrs and reach Old Delhi at 23:30 hrs. Major halts include Lucknow, Moradabad and Ambala, ensuring broad regional access.

Railway officials expect significant footfall on this route, particularly due to Patna Sahib’s historical and spiritual connection with Sikh devotees.

Old Delhi AC Special Train: Daily Service

To accommodate pilgrims from northern India, a fully air-conditioned daily service will operate from Old Delhi on 22, 23, 24 and 25 November. The train will depart at 07:00 hrs and reach Sri Anandpur Sahib at 13:45 hrs on the same day.

The return service will depart from Sri Anandpur Sahib at 20:30 hrs daily and reach Delhi at 03:15 hrs. Key halts include Sonipat, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Sirhind and New Morinda.

This AC service is expected to be the preferred choice for families and senior citizens seeking a comfortable daytime travel option.

Railways Reaffirms Commitment to Pilgrim-Friendly Travel

Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu emphasized that the Railways is honoured to support the solemn remembrance of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacrifice for religious freedom, truth and human dignity. He added that all arrangements have been made to ensure safe, reliable and timely travel for pilgrims from across the country.

The Railways has urged passengers to plan their journeys in advance and make use of the special trains scheduled exclusively for this occasion.
