Steel import issues? Join Open House 29‑30 July

RR Team, July 25, 2025July 25, 2025
The Ministry of Steel will host an Open House meeting on 29–30 July 2025 in New Delhi. It’s a prime opportunity for steel importers to raise issues related to SIMS, QCOs and NOCs.

Why this Open House matters

SImports must comply with the Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS). They also need No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for certain grades 0.

Some importers face delays in approvals. This Open House aims to fix those issues directly. It shows the government’s commitment to transparency and efficiency.

Who can participate?

  • Steel companies
  • Industry associations (up to 15 participants)

They can discuss issues face-to-face with Ministry officials. No walk-ins are allowed. You must book a timeslot 1.

How to apply

Email tech‑steel@nic.in to request a slot. Include:

  1. Company or association name
  2. Issue type: SIMS, NOC, QCO, others
  3. Names & number of participants
  4. Preferred date: 29 or 30 July
  5. Reference number, if any
  6. Industry sector (Auto/Aerospace/Telecom/Defence etc.)
  7. Issue summary (≤50 words)
  8. Contact details of nodal person

The meeting runs from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on both days 2. The ministry will confirm exact times via email.

Topics in focus

  • SIMS delays: Why application logs aren’t updating.
  • QCO clarifications: Standards or compliance questions.
  • NOC wait times: For non‑BIS‑covered steel grades 3.
  • Any other import-related bottleneck.

Why it matters for the sector

Streamlined approvals help businesses import steel efficiently. They reduce inventory costs. They support sector growth. Delays hurt manufacturers, exporters and downstream users.

What to do next

  1. Draft your issue clearly (<50 words).
  2. Gather participant details.
  3. Email tech‑steel@nic.in today.
  4. Check your inbox for confirmation.
  5. Attend on 29 or 30 July—don’t miss your slot.

Conclusion

The Open House is a rare chance to resolve import issues directly with the Ministry. It reflects proactive governance and industry engagement. Don’t let red tape slow your import plans.
