Summit Delegates Embrace India’s Spiritual Heritage

RR Team, January 27, 2026January 27, 2026
The Global Buddhist Summit (GBS) hosted a momentous visit by around 250 foreign monks and delegates to the Qila Rai Pithora Cultural Complex, where they offered prayers to the Holy relics of Buddha. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 3, 2026, the exhibition captivated participants with the history of the Piprawah relics and India’s efforts to repatriate reliquaries taken abroad in 1898.The delegates spent over two hours exploring the exhibition, gaining insight into India’s dedication to preserving its ancient spiritual heritage. Many were visibly moved, chanting before the relics, while others received blessings. One senior sangha member remarked, “We are extremely fortunate to be given this rare opportunity to be blessed by the relics of the Shakyamuni and see the rich collection.” The organizers had kept this spiritual segment as a surprise to enrich the academic and philosophical aspects of the summit.

Alongside the cultural immersion, about 60 international monks attended India’s Republic Day parade on January 26. The presence of these venerable figures amidst the display of defence forces created a solemn atmosphere, symbolizing the coexistence of India’s spiritual ethos with its democratic and sovereign strength. Senior monks shared their awe, calling it a “once in a lifetime experience,” particularly when some were able to greet Prime Minister Modi personally.

These twin experiences—engaging with sacred relics and witnessing the Republic Day celebrations—highlighted India’s dual identity as a nation rooted in spiritual wisdom while asserting its democratic and cultural resilience. The summit participants lauded India for harmonizing heritage preservation with contemporary national pride, leaving a lasting impression on both foreign and domestic attendees.

By combining spiritual, cultural, and civic experiences, the Global Buddhist Summit underscored India’s commitment to fostering dialogue between tradition and modernity, further strengthening international appreciation for its unique heritage and democratic values. These events reflected a compelling message that solutions to global challenges can find guidance in both spiritual wisdom and national responsibility, as often highlighted by the Prime Minister.
