New Delhi, 10 September 2025: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) have announced the launch of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2025 campaign, themed ‘Swacchotsav’. Scheduled from 17th September to 2nd October, the fortnight-long initiative aims to combine cleanliness drives with the Indian festive season, promoting clean and green celebrations nationwide.
Cleanliness as a Year-Round Commitment
Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal emphasized that Swachhata is a continuous effort, urging citizens across villages, cities, and peri-urban areas to maintain clean surroundings. He described Swachhata as a “shared dharma,” highlighting joint campaigns and visible cleanliness initiatives. Shri Lal also called upon all States to achieve 100% clearance of legacy dumpsites and encouraged active use of the Swachhata App for reporting and resolving sanitation issues efficiently.
Engaging States and Urban-Rural Departments
The meeting also focused on reviewing the progress of CTUs identified in the previous year and mapping new units across urban and rural areas. Ministers and officials discussed strategies for SafaiMitra Suraksha Shivir, ensuring the safety and welfare of sanitation workers while promoting sustainable and community-driven sanitation practices.
MoS MoHUA Shri Tokhan Sahu, along with Secretaries from both MoHUA and DDWS, participated to coordinate with State officials, ensuring smooth implementation of SHS 2025 across India.
