Telangana Bus Tragedy Claims 20 Lives in Rangareddy District

In a tragic road accident on Monday morning, at least 20 people were killed and several others injured after a speeding tipper lorry collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) bus in Tandur, Rangareddy district. The lorry, carrying a heavy load of gravel, overturned upon impact, crushing the front of the bus completely.

Three Sisters Among the Dead

Among the deceased were three sisters  Tanusha, Sai Priya, and Nandini  from Vadderagalli village in Gandhinagar, Rangareddy district. Their parents, Ambika and Yellaiah, were inconsolable at the accident site. “Who will bring back my three children? What sin did they commit?” cried Ambika as relatives and locals gathered in grief.

The sisters were pursuing higher studies in Hyderabad Tanusha was an MBA student, Sai Priya was in her final year of a degree course, and Nandini had just begun her first year. Their eldest sister, Anusha, had married only 20 days earlier, making the tragedy even more devastating for the family.

Missed Train, Took the Fatal Bus

According to the family, the sisters were supposed to return to Hyderabad on Friday, but their mother had asked them to stay back for the weekend. On Monday morning, their father took them to the railway station, but they missed their train and opted to board the ill-fated bus instead. Minutes later, news arrived that the bus had collided with a lorry, killing many passengers instantly.

Other Victims Identified

Another victim, 23-year-old Akhila Reddy from Lakshminarayana Pur village in Yalal mandal, was also pursuing an MBA in Hyderabad. Her mother recalled how she had always feared road travel, saying through tears, “My daughter lost her life my worst fear has come true.”

PM Modi Announces Compensation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the accident and announced an ex-gratia compensation for the victims’ families under the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Telangana Chief Minister also directed officials to provide immediate medical aid to the injured and support to bereaved families.

Eyewitness Accounts and Rescue Operations

Eyewitnesses reported that the collision occurred at high speed and the lorry’s load of gravel toppled over the bus, trapping several passengers. Firefighters and police rushed to the spot, using heavy equipment to pull bodies from the wreckage. Rescue operations continued for several hours before the road was cleared for traffic.

Officials said that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash and whether speeding or mechanical failure was involved. Initial reports suggest the lorry driver may have lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle.
