Thiruvananthapuram CGST Zone Gets CBIC Honour

RR Team, June 26, 2025June 26, 2025

Thiruvananthapuram CGST Zone Gets CBIC Honour

Thiruvananthapuram, June 26: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has awarded a Commendation Certificate to the Thiruvananthapuram CGST Zone on the 8th GST Day, in recognition of its stellar performance in key administrative areas.

Leading in GST Registrations

The Thiruvananthapuram CGST Zone has emerged as a national leader in processing GST registration applications. An impressive 55% of applications were processed within 7 days—far ahead of the national average of 17%.

This reflects the zone’s strong commitment to efficiency and taxpayer facilitation. By streamlining the registration process, businesses in Kerala have benefited from reduced delays and faster onboarding into the GST system.

Top Performance in GST Appeals

Equally remarkable is the zone’s performance in disposing of GST appeals. It resolved 83% of appeals filed during the year, significantly higher than many other regions.

This effective and prompt resolution demonstrates a robust dispute redressal mechanism, building greater trust between taxpayers and tax administrators.

Focus on Taxpayer-Centric Services

Behind this commendation lies the consistent effort by the officers and staff to provide services aligned with the “Ease of Doing Business” vision. Their focus on resolving issues quickly and efficiently supports the core objective of the Goods and Services Tax (GST): creating a unified and simplified tax structure.

Such achievements become even more meaningful as India continues to strengthen its digital tax infrastructure and improve compliance levels across sectors.

CBIC’s Role and Recognition

The CBIC’s recognition not only celebrates administrative efficiency but also sets a benchmark for other zones to follow. The 8th GST Day serves as a moment of reflection on how far India’s indirect tax reforms have come since their launch in 2017.

By awarding such efforts, CBIC encourages competitive excellence, transparency, and innovation in GST governance. It also emphasizes the critical role of local zones in making national reforms a success.

Way Forward

Going forward, digital integration, automation, and real-time monitoring will continue to shape GST implementation. Zones like Thiruvananthapuram are well-positioned to lead this evolution, serving as models for inclusive and efficient tax administration.
